I worked with Ofc Martin at the Sheriff's MASH unit and he displayed a true compation for the lives of all animals, especially for those in our care. I loved his dedication to that task!! He was also a happy person to be around. We as a unit would have BBQ's on the roof top Just to make it feel more like home, and because we were all hungry . He was a great at getting the outdated broken charcoal grill to work wonders! He was always willing to help with anything job related or personal. I am truely sorry for his passing, but I have faith that he is in a place that he will continue to protect all that his great passion of human and animal life will be well served. I will pray for him and his loved ones so that they will receive comfort and grace. Officer Martin till we meet again in heaven where God's works are done to protect the good and the innocent I know you will be vigilant and show me the ropes when I get there. God Bless!

Although I only met you a few times a East, you were right there to help a female, E-Listed GSD.
I will never forget the experience of the meet and with my other GSD, rescue.
Things went very well and I feel it was because of you that she is alive and in a wonderful home, with her adoring adopter.
Although that is just one snap shot of who you are, it truly speaks volumes.
Devastating to know you are gone so soon, heaven will surely benefit with your benevolent spirit.
My sincere condolences to Samantha and all your family.
May your kindness and happiness in life, last decades in the hearts of all who knew you.

Another volunteer once described our relationship as shelter sisters. I like to think of Bert as my shelter brother he was a friend, a champion for the animals at East, and always had my back. I will miss his quips, his smile and that twinkle in his eye. We miss you more than you could imagine Bert, thank you for all you did for the animals and for your compadres at East, please watch over us and guide us while we try to fill your shoes.

My thoughts and prayers are with the friends, family, and coworkers of this gentle giant. Life, family, love, and a good dog were really Berts main priorities. Working in any animal shelter environment is hard for the animals and the staff that share the suffering that occurs there at no fault of their own, Bert embraced these difficulties and excelled. Good luck and eternal peace to you Bert, you have been a mentor and friend to all
