One of the stories I remember hearing about Bert Garner from when he was in high school was that he ran with perfect form...placing each foot exactly where it should be. Photos were taken of his footprints to show other athletes how to run. Fortunately for us, the footprints of his life can also show the rest of us how to love, how to serve, how to live.

What a beautiful graduation service! I loved listening to the siblings sing. One of my earliest memories of the Garner family was when you all stood in our family room at the farm and sang Blue Moon - You had just moved to Gilbert - I love your family!! I loved your dad - he made me feel like I was his favorite.
When I think of Bert Garner - his smile is right there in my mind's eye. What a legacy he left behind.
All my love - Continued prayers for comfort.
Until we meet again.
Hugs - Shelli Lamoreaux

Sorry to hear about Uncle Bert. When I think of Uncle Bert, I remember him milking my Mom's cow for half the milk. Her name was jers , and her milk was cream. Thanks Uncle Bert. Love you and Aunt Carma. Jim Garner

I always remember your Dad cheering us on in our cross country and track meets. He would stand next to the track/trail and just about jump onto it with his enthusiasm! He would tell us how close we were to the runner(s) in front of and behind us.
Our deepest condolences are for all of you.

I love so many things about my Grandpa! Serious, but funny; strict, but loving; a joker, but spiritual; competitive, but affectionate. I look forward to playing games again and getting those sweet kisses! Of course Grandma will win the games anyway.

Deep conversations about important things, The gospel, and love and family. Dominoes and silly puns and cute songs with lovely tenor harmonies. These are the things I will remember, cherish and pass on.

Please accept our most sincere sympathy concerning the passing of your Father. He was a wonderful man; one worthy of emulation by the myriads of youth whom he instructed during his teaching career.

I felt a spiritual bond with him from the moment I first met him. I even remarked to him that I felt a burning confirmation that our meeting was the rekindling of a friendship that existed prior to this earth life. I felt a closeness to him unlike any other that I had ever known with another human being.

Even with an assured knowledge that his will be an eternal reward of the highest nature, one still feels an intense loss at his passing. I will never forget that loving grin and Christ-like demeanor that he displayed for all to see.

My prayers will most certainly be lifted up for your Mother and your family. Rest comfortably, knowing that many lives were touched and changed for the better through his kindly example and counsel.

He was, as they always say, “A man among men.”

All our love to you and yours.

Our sincere condolences to the Garner family. Thank you, Bert and Carma for helping our son and family at a time of need. It will never be forgotten, and always be graciously remembered.
Sincerely,

I talked to dad a couple of weeks ago and it was the last real conversation I had with him. He spoke of his children, some regrets, his love for me and Blair and our children... he gave me marital advice... Of all the things he shared with me that day the most precious thing he shared was his testimony of the Gospel. He wants all of us to know that our Savior is real and the atonement is for all of us. He wants us to be a forever family. He joked that the Lord was letting him stay around for a few more days so he could fully repent before he left this earth. I know he isn't perfect. But he is a good man. Just look at this legacy he has left behind: This amazing family that I am blessed to be a part of. I am eternally grateful to him and mom for raising my husband to be the man he is and their other children who have become some of my best friends who have children that are also some of my best friends. The Garner family is second to none and Bert Garner gets much of the credit for that. I can't wait to see him again.

My Grandpa Bert gave me my first lessons in sportsmanship and competition when he raced me to finish my cereal in the morning. He won, of course, on a technicality because my bowl wasn't licked clean like his was. Now that I look back, I realize he was just tricking me into eating soggy granola. Clever man. A worthy competitor. A fantastic grandpa. Can't wait to see him again on the other side.

I remember visiting Grandpa not too long after he had his strokes. He took a drink of water and remarked on how wonderful it tasted. From him, I learned never to take anything for granted. He enjoyed every minute he spent on this earth, and was always making others smile. I'm incredibly greatful for his example and love in my life. As said by others, though he had a very large family he made each and every one of us feel special and loved very individually. Grandpa, I can't wait to see your smile and hear your wonderful laugh again! I love you!

Uncle Bert always reminded me of my father, his older brother. After my father passed away in 1974 I had many opportunities to visit Uncle Bert and Aunt Carma, always graciously loved and accepted in their home. I particularly remember being in the Idaho Falls Temple sealing room when Karen was married, watching Uncle Bert express his emotions with tears of joy coursing down his cheeks. My memories of my own father doing the exact thing when I was married in the same temple made that moment sealed in my mind. Thank you, Uncle Bert, for your love and kindness these many years. His last words to me were the same he always said to me: "Remember, we sure love you." I remember.

When I think of my Grandpa Garner, the first thing I do is smile. He could always make me laugh like crazy. My favorite memory was when Rob and I went to visit Grandma and Grandpa for breakfast in Emmett, Idaho. Grandpa showed us the right way to eat pancakes: peanut butter first, then the pancake, then real butter, followed by more peanut butter, then add the syrup! He was so excited to be eating this delicious meal with us because he said Grandma didn't let him eat like that very often. :-) I will forever miss my grandpa. And even though I am only 1 of 50 grandchildren, Grandpa always made me feel like the only one.

When I think about what it means to be a man, I think of the example Grandpa led. He put family first in all things, was a man of God and helped better the lives of others. I'm eternally blessed to have learned from him. I'm honored to carry his last name. I love you, Grandpa.

Throughout my life, I felt love and support from my Uncle Bert. He was genuinely interested in everything children said to him. He wanted to be informed about my life and my ideas. One of the most wonderful blessings a person can give another is attention and time: Uncle Bert gave both to me. Unforgettable man.
