Bertha Pauline Harper, 90, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2017 in Dallas, TX. She was born on January 23, 1927 to Arnold and Thelma (Corter) Majors in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.
Bertha was born and raised in Arkansas, but also lived in Missouri before moving to Mesquite as a young mother with 8 children and th 9th child came along five years later. She was a strong, stubborn, independent and self-sufficient woman. Bertha was a long time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Mesquite. She was a woman that always spoke her mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not and never let anyone run over her. She owned and operated Grove Restaurant in Pleasant Grove for about eight years and Todd’s Grocery in Garland for about ten years. Bertha enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, word search puzzles, flowers and was an avid reader. She always cooked the holiday meals for her large family all by herself. Her greatest pleasure in life was her family and those that loved her will forever hold her in their hearts.
Preceding her in death are her parents Arnold and Thelma Majors; son Freddie Todd; grandson Zachary Todd; great-granddaughters Kayla Garrett and Elise Kiser; siblings Carrie Lee Manes, Leslie Ray Majors, Dorothy Collins and Faye Broadwater.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Herman Todd and wife, Linda; Ruth Peterson; William E. Todd, Jr. and wife, Mary; Linda Carrig and husband, Rick; Della Todd Adams and husband, Troy; Paula Fallon and husband, Tim; Joyce Ransom and husband, John; Ronald J. Todd and wife, Annamarie; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Kerbs and Barbara Greene; and a host of extended family members and friends that will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Roselawn Funeral Home, Seagoville, TX. Funeral service will be following the visitation at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest in the Garden of Scriptures.
