Bert was born May 4, 1927 the youngest son of Oliver Bertram Lumsden-Baskin and Isabelle Marguerite (Cully) in Moores, NY. In 1929 his family moved to Hamilton, ON. When Bert was in his teens, he heard the Gospel and responded by asking Jesus to be his Lord and Savior and has been serving Him ever since. Bert was in military service for 11 months and was awarded 2 service medals during that time. Between 1946 & 1950 he attended and graduated from London Bible Institute. During the summers he did evangelistic work and sang in the male quartette.

While at LBI he met and became engaged to Lois Gertrude Brown. They married on Aug 4, 1951. Bert preached in Welland and Fort Erie, ON for a year. They served the Lord as missionaries with Sudan United Mission in Chad, Africa from 1952 to 1965. Serious health issues brought them back to the Ottawa, ON area for a year.

From 1966 to 1981 Bert pastored People's Church in Montreal, PQ, The Gospel Chapel in Vanderhoof, B.C, and Lake Gospel Church in Hamilton, ON. In 1981, they relocated to teach at Peace River Bible Institute in Sexsmith, AB. From 1984 till 1987 he served as Assistant Director with Northern Canada Evangelical Mission in Prince Albert, SK. From there they moved to Clairmont, AB and served with The Shantymen Christian Association for 8 years. During these years they traveled countless miles visiting small northern communities. They were active in seniors ministry, chaplain volunteering and starting a community inter-denominational luncheon with speakers and special music in Grand Prairie. They retired in 1995, but continued serving actively in their community and at McLauren Baptist Church in Grande Prairie, until they moved to Vernon in 2005. All these adventures were shared with his beloved Lois.
