Mrs. McAdams was born February 11, 1924 in Abington, PA. She was the youngest of three children and attended Centenary Junior College in Hackettstown, NJ.

In 1945 Bette married Dr. Charles Rupert McAdams, Jr. before ultimately moving to Charlotte and raising their three children.

Bette was, for many years, an active member of Myers Park Methodist Church.

Bette is survived by her husband; her daughter, Barbara McAdams Thompson and her husband Tommy; and two sons, Charles Rupert McAdams, III and his wife Victoria, and Edward Judson McAdams and his wife Lynne. Her eight grandchildren include Harry Morton Thompson, IV and his wife Scottie; Charles Bennett Thompson and his wife Lauren; Craig McAdams Thompson and his wife Ellen; Edward Judson McAdams, Jr. and his wife Ginger; Matthew Leighton McAdams and his wife Jordan; Charles Scott McAdams, Rebecca Settle McAdams and Charles Rupert McAdams, IV; and six great- grandchildren.

Bette was happiest in the company of her family, especially when gathered together at the river, the beach or just in her kitchen at home. She was an accomplished woodcrafter whose creations grace her home and those of her children and grandchildren. She had a special touch for creating a home filled with warmth and coziness. Bette loved stock car racing and was a diehard fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Tarheels. She applied her talents as a dancer and her love of Broadway musicals to the production of a host of musical shows for the Mecklenburg Medical Auxiliary.

A casual visitation in memory of Bette will be held Thursday evening, August 14, from 6-8 pm at the home of Judd and Lynne McAdams. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, August 15, at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home. A private interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Bette's memory to the "Send a Kid to Camp Campaign" at YMCA Camp Thunderbird, 1 Thunderbird Ln., Lake Wylie, SC 29710, or to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, 8919 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
