Obituary

Bettie J. Purdy, 77, died on Friday, October 1, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am, Wednesday October 6, 2010 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (OLIH) of which she was a member. A rosary will be held at 4:30 pm with visitation from 5 to 7 pm and a vigil service at 7 pm on Tuesday at OLIH. Burial will be Pine Hill Cemetery. Bettie was born in Des Moines, graduated from Woodside High School in 1951, and lived in Ankeny for the last 50 years. She worked for 24 years at Ford Implement before her retirement in 1974. Bettie was born in Des Moines, graduated from Woodside High School in 1951, and lived in Ankeny for the last 50 years. She worked for 24 years at Ford Implement before her retirement in 1974. Bettie enjoyed reading and treasured time with her family.
She will be missed by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Ken; son, Allen (Amy) of Ankeny; son, David (Heather) of Des Moines; and granddaughters, Rachel and Sarah Purdy. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill, Joe and Jon (Vickie) Miklus; and sisters, Amelia "Mickey" Miklus and Daisy (Mario) Marcketti all of Des Moines, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mike and Ada Miklus and her brother, Jack Miklus.
