Betty Wight Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 4, 2017.

Betty Anna Johnson Wight of Wilmington passed on to be with be the Lord on November 3, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept 26, 1937 to Walter Johnson, Sr. and Mildred Johnson.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Johnson, Jr.; brother in-law Don Close and sisters in-law Peg Johnson and Letha Johnson.
Betty devoted her life to her family and others, volunteering at NHRMC and her love of animals led her to become a volunteer at the New Hanover Humane Society. She was also alongside her son, Ronny, at Coastal Engraving for 32 years.
Betty also enjoyed following NASCAR and collecting Beanie Babies.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ronald Wight, Sr. of the home; daughters: Lee Dyches and husband David of Wilmington and Julie Wight of Port Orange, Florida; son Ronald Wight, Jr. of Wilmington; grandchild, Anna Dyches of Wilmington; sister Helen Close of Eldred, PA and brothers: James Johnson and wife Kathy of Eldred, PA and Edward Johnson and wife Alzia of Alexandria, VA; and her "adopted" son Paul Sutphin of Wilmington. Also many nieces and nephews from all over the US that surprised her with video greetings for her 80th birthday in September.
God could have called her home after her first stroke in 2013 but she persevered in the darkest of predictions, worked hard and proved the professionals wrong. She showered us with love and showed the most positive spirit and grace. Her smile was contagious. All who knew her were blessed to have that extra time with her.
We would like to thank family and friends for their kindness, love and support through her journey. Her love for all of us was truly a gift.
The family will receive friends from 6PM until 8PM on Monday 6, 2017 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the charity of your choice.
