Betty Joan Snider, 85, of Tega Cay, SC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 24, 2016, at Brookdale Carriage House Senior Living, in Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 3:00PM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8300 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC with the Reverend Ron Wiese officiating. Burial will be at later date, in the Mt. Carmel Methodist Church Cemetery, Marion, VA. McEwen Funeral Service, in Pineville, NC, is handling arrangements. There will be no prior visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to Messiah Lutheran Church, Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.
Betty was born in Princeton, WVA on September 26, 1931 to Joseph E. Evans and Mattie Stoots Evans. She graduated from Marion Senior High School, Marion, VA, and was married to the late Darrel R. Snider Sr. on October 9, 1948 for 38 years. She was married to David Hill in 1999 until his death in 2004. Betty worked at Allstate Insurance in Chicago, and transferred to Charlotte where she worked for many years before retiring. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; Jess Bishop, Nan Hearn, Effie Porterfield, Agnes Grayson and Bessie Burke; and three brothers Joseph Evans Jr., G. Thomas Evans and Richard Evans.
Betty is survived by her three children; Brenda (William) Bauer, Darrell (Robin) Snider, and James (Cheryl) Snider; eight grandchildren; Brad (Rebecca) Bauer, Brett Bauer, Colin (Meredith) Snider, Ryan (Danielle) Snider, Allison (Javy) Arbaelez, Alyssa (Matthew) Walker, Jason Snider, and Matthew Snider; and seven great grandchildren. Betty was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church and enjoyed participating in church activities. She volunteered for many causes, including creating Braille Bibles for the blind. She was a compassionate and caring friend, and a helper to others less fortunate. Betty will be sadly missed by family and friends.
