Obituary

Betty Jean Bertelsen Atto, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday September 21, 2012. She died at Avonlea Cottage in Milan, IL where she had made her home since 2009. She was born January 14, 1922 in Moline, IL, daughter of J. W. and Cecilia Frey Bertelsen. She married Darrell G. Atto on January 15, 1944 in Rock Island, IL. He died in 1973. Funeral will be held at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline, on Tuesday September 25 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free...
Betty Jean Bertelsen Atto, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday September 21, 2012. She died at Avonlea Cottage in Milan, IL where she had made her home since 2009. She was born January 14, 1922 in Moline, IL, daughter of J. W. and Cecilia Frey Bertelsen. She married Darrell G. Atto on January 15, 1944 in Rock Island, IL. He died in 1973.

Funeral will be held at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline, on Tuesday September 25 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church, Moline, IL. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.
Betty worked for 25 years at the Rock Island Arsenal and Command retiring in 1987 as executive secretary in the Logistics Support Directorate. In her younger years she was a member of the Agnes Hurst Circle of the Kings Daughters and PTA. She was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Moline. There she participated in White Cross and Adult Bible Fellowship.

Betty enjoyed traveling to foreign countries as well as to many states in the USA. She loved classical music and reading. She enjoyed her grand children very much.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Jahn, Milan; grand children, Nicole (Paul) Mueller, Edgington, Paul Gavin (Amy) Jahn, Milan, Justin D. Jahn, Rock Island, and great-granddaughter, Carly Ann Mueller, Edgington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son, Gary L. Atto, and her brother, Wm. R. Bertelsen, M.D.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Avonlea Cottage for their superior help in caring for Betty.
