Obituary

Funeral services for Betty Jean Binion, age 83 of Ogdensburg and formerly of the Hall Road in Lisbon, will be held on Saturday (January 15, 2011) at 5:30pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service at Foxwood Memorial Park. Calling hours will also be held on Saturday from 3:30pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Binion died Wednesday (Jan 12, 2011) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Betty Jean Binion, age 83 of Ogdensburg and formerly of the Hall Road in Lisbon, will be held on Saturday (January 15, 2011) at 5:30pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Interment will follow the service at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Calling hours will also be held on Saturday from 3:30pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Binion died Wednesday (Jan 12, 2011) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Surviving are two sons Leon Binion & his wife Vivian of TN, Joseph Binion of Ogdensburg; two daughters Ruth Reid & her husband John of Prescott, Ontario & Cynthia Adams & her husband George of Lisbon; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; sister in law Barbara Binion; brother-in-laws Frank Binion & his wife Ann of Lisbon & Earl Binion of Adams; a special niece Joyce McDougal of Ogdensburg along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Ralph, a son Ralph Jr.; two children in infancy; grandchildren Tommy Adams and Benjamin Binion and a great-granddaughter.

Betty was born on July 16, 1927 in Cooperstown, NY a daughter of the late Edward & Florence (Aiken) Keator. She graduated from Canton High School and married Ralph Binion on July 16, 1946 at the Wesleyan Parsonage in Morley, NY with Rev. Northrup officiating. Her working career began at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center prior to her marriage, and then she became employed at the United Helpers Home in 1973 as a nurse's aid. She retired in 1988 after 15 years of dedicated service.

She enjoyed bingo, reading, entering contest, shopping, fishing, traveling, needlepoint and crocheting. She was a member of the Ogdensburg Senior Citizens Bowling League and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Lisbon and the Lisbon Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Memorial contribution can be made in her name to the SPCA.
