Betty Helen Dunkel died February 5, 2013 at the age of 87. Born in North Manchester, IN, on June 1, 1925, the daughter of Robert James Grossnickle and Mabel Eff (Alger) Grossnickle. She graduated from Michigan State University's School of Medical Technology, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1946, and received a M.S. Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science in1973 from MSU's College of Human Medicine. She retired from MSU after 25 years. During her tenure at MSU, she served as Acting Director of Human Biology Labs in the College of Human Medicine, then as Curriculum Specialist in the Department of Pathology. She worked in both the College of Human Medicine and the College of Osteopathic Medicine during their formative years, and co-authored several papers with faculty. She married Warren Vincent on August 14, 1944, and was divorced on June 25, 1979. On February 2, 1986, she married John Dunkel.

She is survived by a brother, Paul Grossnickle, and a sister, Susan Barnhill, both of North Carolina; six children: Steven Vincent of East Lansing, James Vincent of Sydney, Australia, Jeffrey Vincent of St. Johns, MI, Jill Tierney of Snellville, GA, Peter Vincent of Holt, MI, and Chad Vincent of Waunakee, WI; and by 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also remembering Betty Dunkel are close friends and supporters, Sharon Nichols and Warren's second wife, Toni Vincent.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, at University United Methodist Church, 1120 South Harrison Road, East Lansing, MI. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing. On line condolences may be made to www.greastlansing.com.
