Obituary

Betty Sue (Johnson) Horne passed away on June 28, 2012 at the Waterford care facility in College Station after a courageous 20 year battle with Parkinson's disease. The family welcomes friends to a period of visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at College Station City Cemetery. Betty Sue (Johnson) Horne passed away on June 28, 2012 at the Waterford care facility in College Station after a courageous 20 year battle with Parkinson's disease. The family welcomes friends to a period of visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Betty was born in Miller Grove on September 9, 1933 to Robert Lee and Thelma (Anderson) Johnson. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Miller Grove High School. After graduation she worked for the Hopkins County Tax office in Sulphur Springs for three years. She married Wendell Horne on June 11, 1955 and they moved to Lamar County where she continued to work as a tax clerk. They moved to Bonham and finally to College Station in 1960. Before Betty's retirement in 1992, she taught piano, worked at the TAMU book store and served as admissions clerk for the TAMU graduate college. Those who knew and worked with her appreciated her kind, compassionate and loving spirit. She enjoyed teaching piano, playing forty-two, and bowling. She was a loving mother, a wonderful grandmother "Ma-Ma" to her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren that all adored her. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in College Station for 52 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and half-brother Ferrell Johnson.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years Wendell Horne of College Station; son Harold and wife Vicki Horne of Midland; daughter Pam Corrington of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren include Jacquelyn and husband Jared Evans, Justin and wife Lauren Horne, Calyste Corrington, Kendal Corrington, Tana Corrington and Chase Corrington; two great-grandchildren Emerson and Elin Evans; two sisters Norma and husband Bill Ward of Greenville, Robbie and husband Gene Kemp of Tyler.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of College Station at 2300 Welsh Ave College Station, TX 77845, the Cen-Tex Parkinson Support Group at 4221 Warwick Bryan, TX 77802 or Hospice Brazos Valley at 502 West 26th street Bryan, TX 77803.
