Betty Jean Stewart Martinik, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital on Sunday, January 24, 2016, after a brief illness. Betty Jean was born in Daytona, Florida on November 19, 1930. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1949, and married her high school sweetheart Robert A. Martinik, Sr. Together they had five children; Robert A. Martinik Jr. (Sylvia) of Darien, CT; Jeffery (Mary) Martinik of Monroe, CT; Tracey (Doug) Kersteen of Madison, CT; Kevin (Terri) Martinik of Stamford, CT; and Kim (John) Scala of Ridgefield, CT and eight grandchildren; Christina, Jay, Michelle, Barbara Jean, Andrew, Mark, Lauren, Taylor, and two great-granddaughters; Addison and Mackenzie Jean.
Betty Jean was employed as an interior designer and then later, manager of PPG Industries in Stamford. Subsequently she spent over 10 years as a real estate agent in the Stamford area. She was a member of the Stamford Woman's Club since 1994, where she served as secretary and more recently President. After retirement she dedicated much of her time as a volunteer at Stamford Hospital. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Hubbard Heights Woman's Golf Association. Betty Jean was a most generous, kind and loving person to all. She was a dedicated and loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be terribly missed but her legacy of unconditional love, traditions and values will carry on for many generations to come.
Betty Jean was extremely generous and contributed to many charities. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Betty Jean Martinik to Stamford Hospital ICU, 1351 Washington Boulevard, Suite 202, Stamford, CT 06902 in care of Stamford Hospital Foundation.
Services will be held as follows:
Relatives and friends may call at the Bouton & Reynolds Funeral Home at 2900 Summer Street, Stamford CT on Friday January 29th, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM

Dear Tracy,
I send love and care to you and your entire family and circle of friends touched by the transition of your lovely mother. I always felt as if those of us who attended Rippowam had been blessed in the parent department. May she continue to shine and thrive in all of your hearts, in your smiles and in the laughter of your children. I know the good-bye of a mother and I know also her love does not leave us.
Love and regards,

Dear Martinik Family,
I went to Rippowam High School with Jeff and remember him fondly, and then 30 years later my daughter, Rachel, comes home with a new friend named AJ from Monroe. To my surprise it was Jeff's son! I did not know Betty Jean, but I am sure she was a wonderful Mom and Grandmother, as her son and grandson were a delight.
Our condolences to your family and we hope that your fond memories of your mother and grandmother carry you through this difficult time.
Sincerely, Holly Thornton Altieri and Family

We moved to Oaklawn Ave when I was in the 3rd grade (45 yrs ago). Betty and Bob were so gracious to let a couple of the neighborhood kids swim in their pool. We had countless late night nerf football games in front of their house, as it was the 50 yard line! Sweet Abigail used to come over to play with our dogs Yankee & Kaye~C ! I worked with Betty at Pittsburgh Paints and many years later she sold me my first home! I was graced to see her in her final weeks after so many years! Blessings to Bob and the entire family!

To Bob and family, please accept our sincere deepest sympathy on the loss of Betty. It has been years since I've seen you all as my home is in Michigan. My Mom, Elsie Vernal Dayney knew Betty and Bob since school and were once very dear friends when we kids were little. Mom and Betty wrote cards and letters up until this past Christmas, so naturally Mom was quite shocked and saddened by this news. We are all so very sorry for your loss.

MY MOM
My mom has always been my anchor and my light . She has guided me through my tough times
She was always there to hear my woes and gladly give her motherly advise. My mom always wanted the best for me she gave whatever she could whenever she could. Her insight and love has made me the caring compassionate person I am today. My mom was also very funny. She would come up with some outrageous comments that would have us cracking up. She was competitive when it came to games. Over the years we rigged the games so that we could all enjoy her pleasure in winning . When mom won we all did . There is nothing I wouldn't do for mom and there was nothing she wouldn't do for me and my family. The gift of unconditional love that my parents so freely gave to me is their legacy. You hear about the power of love ! 66 years of love ...trust me it is powerful . So strong is their bond that heaven and earth are now one for every night as my dad rests his weary head on his pillow my mom comes down and wraps herself around him ,filling him with love and light and giving him the energy to face another day without her . Mom your presence will be missed you were as Lauren says "adorable" and we all adore you it was an honor to be your child . You did good mom damn good now you get to rest in peace LOVE AND LIGHT. Kimmy Amen
