Betty Rowland Voyles, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24 surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on November 30, 1930, in Clemson, SC, to Henry and Sue Rowland. Betty attended North Fulton High School and Georgia Southern University. On June 7, 1952, she married Robert Townsend Voyles of Morrow, GA. During their early married years, Betty worked for The Coca-Cola Bottlers Association in Atlanta. Residing in Buckhead, Betty and Robert had two children, Bob Voyles and Vicki Voyles. They settled in Sandy Springs in 1968. In addition to being a homemaker, Betty was a successful Realtor with Northside Realty for over 30 years. She received multiple awards including the Phoenix Award for a decade of $1m+ sales annually. In addition to her professional successes in real estate, Betty was deeply committed and involved with the Republican Party, locally and nationally. She was proud to promote conservative causes long before Georgia became a Red State. Betty was a Goldwater Girl. She volunteered countless hours over the years for prominent politicians including managing Senator Johnny Isakson's very first state office campaign and staying on his campaign for every election thereafter. One of her most favorite memories was flying up with Johnny Isakson for his federal Congressional Inauguration. She had a double thrill when she was able to witness his Senatorial Inauguration in 2005. Other friends for whom she worked hard were Newt Gingrich, Congressman Tom Price, and a slew of others who are indebted to her victorious efforts. Her smiling face could always be seen at County and State Conventions, usually registering countless numbers of delegates and alternates. She was also a willing volunteer at fundraising dinners for the GAGOP and serving on the State Committee since 2000. She earned the GAGOP State Volunteer Award in 1998. Her energy was only surpassed by her humility. Betty was totally surprised to be awarded the 2005 Connie Russell Midura Volunteer Legacy Award from the Fulton County Republican Party. She was a longtime member of the Fulton County GOP Circle R Club and was an active member and volunteer with the North Fulton Republican Women's Club. Additionally, Betty was committed to various civic associations and causes including serving in the polls for over 60 years. In her free time, Betty was a member of Riverside Garden Club and was an avid knitter. One of her favorite knitting projects was knitting the dolls for the soldiers to give out to children in the Middle East. Betty also made bonnets and Afghans for the preemies at Grady. Above all, Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends. "Tonk" was an extraordinarily loving grandmother to her grandsons, Justin and Kevin. Betty will be especially remembered for her sense of humor, laughter and wit. She was loved by all who knew her and was genuinely known for a kind heart. She selflessly gave of herself financially and personally. She had a love of sports, in particular for Georgia Tech football and basketball. She was admired for her tenaciousness that allowed her to achieve top rankings in many diverse endeavors. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Robert, her daughter, Vicki and nephew, Jim Flood. Survivors include her son, Bob, daughter-in-law, Anne and grandsons, Justin and Kevin of Roswell, GA; sister, June Rowland Flood, brother-in-law, Paul Flood, nephew Pat Flood and wife, Sara Flood, grandnephew and grandniece, Hank and Kathryn Flood. Nieces and nephews, Nancy Carteron-Mull, Patti Voyles, Jim and Suzi Voyles, Bob and Belle Voyles, and John and Leslie Nigh. Grandnephews and grandnieces, Drew and Melissa Voyles, Mary Elizabeth Voyles, Matt and Virginia Tester, Cameron and Kathryn Searle, Schroder Voyles, Anthony and Kelly Aker, Josh and Brittany Anderson, and Sarah Anne Voyles. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 30, at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mount Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs GA 30328. Burial will be held in private. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome and should be given to Children's HealthCare of Atlanta at 404-785-GIVE, online at www.giving.choa.org, or emailed to [email protected].

Our loss, heaven's gain! Betty was a joy to know and a great inspiration to woman. Way ahead of her time. And so hard working no matter what she did.

Condolences to the family. Betty will certainly be missed by many Republicans in Georgia where she was so active for many years. I remember her so well way back working in the Mike Bowers campaign where we all wore "I Like Mike" pins. Her service to the GA GOP and the Republican Women organization will be missed very much.
