Billie Jeanne Hodges, "B.J.", was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, September 3, 1928 to Frances and Norman Thompson. Billie Jeanne moved to Phoenix, AZ at 6yrs of age. In 1950 she married Patrick K. Hodges and moved to Yuma, AZ. On October 17, 2013, Billie went on to what she believed was a better place while surrounded by her family.

A Registered Nurse, she graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Phoenix, AZ in 1949. Her true vocation in life was being a wife, mother, and community leader. Her first job was a Private Duty Nurse at the old Yuma General Hospital.

Billie was known as an avid tennis player, champion swimmer, and neighborhood go-to nurse. She enjoyed teaching her nine children and their friends to do the same. Station wagon loads of children were often seen being delivered to city pools, tennis courts and immunization clinics.

She taught Nursing Aide students for the YUHS District and was a Public Health nurse for the Yuma County Health Dept. Billie was instrumental as a Clinic Volunteer for the original Easter Seals Clinic which later evolved into the current CRS/CHS clinic at YRMC. Billie organized and scheduled all specialty physicians to see children with special needs in the Yuma and surrounding communities. U of A School of Medicine recognized her for contributions in this area of health care.

She served on Yuma Catholic Community Services as a Board Member and President. She was also appointed/elected to Yuma Hospital District Board for two consecutive terms and served as Board President. In 1978, she was appointed by Gov. Wesley Bolin to the AZ Licensing Board of Nursing Homes. Hospice of Yuma Fundraising and its events were always important to Billie and her family.
