Blanche Helen (Chase) Scherschel, age 90, of Bloomington, died Monday morning at the Golden Living Center in Bloomington. Born January 25, 1923 in Bedford, Indiana, she was the daughter of Thomas and Effie (Henderson) Chase. She graduated from Shawswick High School in 1941 where she was the piano accompanist for the choirs. She along with her husband, Jim Scherschel, owned and operated a dairy farm. She then worked as an office supervisor at the Indiana University Alumni Association for 30 years before retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church and a life-long member of the Farm Bureau.
She is survived by her two daughters; Martha (Richard) Becher, of Westfield, Indiana and Jeanette (Edward) Carr, of Ormand Beach, Florida, four sons; Anthony (Shirley) Scherschel, of Bloomington, Daniel (Sondra) Scherschel, of Bloomington, Samuel (Paula) Scherschel, of Plainfield and Leo (Patricia) Scherschel, of Indianapolis, thirteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eight siblings and one grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Daniel Mahan presiding. Entombment will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may visit the family from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel in Bloomington and form 9:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at the church on Thursday.
The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation for the excellent care provided to Blanche while living at the Golden Living Center this past year, especially on the Reminisce unit.

To all in the Scherschel family,
Don and I would like to let you know we were so sorry to hear of the death of Blanche. We have many wonderful memories of Jim and Blanche from the Farm Bureau Co-op and 4-H. She will be sadly missed. Becky
Blanche was my supervisor in the mid to late 80's. She taught me to go the extra mile and look for something before and after where you expect to find it. I don't know why that one conversation stands out in my mind but I have used the notion many times and not just for finding misfiled cards. It felt like a life lesson and I have used it as such.
