Mr. Bloyce Lord was born July 13, 1936 in Rayville, Louisiana. He was a 27 year veteran of the US Army, retired as a Sergeant Major, and was also a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Bloyce Lord humbly and honorably serves his country both on domestic soil and overseas. He felt that one could not do greater good than to fight for the dignity and rights of others. He would often be quoted as saying, “I may not agree with you, but I would fight to my death, your right to say it.” Unlike so many others, he truly meant what he said. His greatest friends were those he found in his years in the Army. They became his extended family and he stayed close to them throughout his long life.

He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He loved spending a quiet morning with friends sharing stories and a great cup of coffee. He was a devoted father and husband; a protective brother, much loved uncle, close friend and neighbor. He spent many years of his life caring for others and inspired others to do the same. He was a strong spirited, loving, gentle, loyal and faithful soul that will be greatly missed by all those his life touched.

Bloyce was preceded in death by his father, Martin Lord; mother, Ruby Lord; his sister, Sammie Mason; and his wife, Marjorie Jo McQueary. Bloyce is survived by Pamala Lord Gilmartin, his only child, and her husband Paul Gilmartin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11:00 am at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

A special thanks to The Arbors at Colony Pointe elder daycare staff for their gentle care of Bloyce that brightened his last days. A thanks also to Dr. Kenneth Weston, Dr. Terry Ryan and their staff for the excellent care Bloyce received during his health challenges. Finally, a thanks to the Boone Hospital and Boone Home Health Care groups – who always treated Bloyce with affection, respect and allowed him dignity through so many difficult times.
