Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2016.

Brad McKown, 55, of Fort Smith, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday October 6, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. It was through his unwavering faith and trust in God that Brad was able to fight a courageous 10-year battle with cancer. Harold Bradley McKown was born August 27, 1961 in Fort Smith, to Harold and Barbara (Smith) McKown. Brad was a member of Butterfield Assembly of God in Van Buren. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nettie Smith and paternal grandmother, Frankie McKown.

A graduate of Van Buren High School, he went on to further his education graduating with a Bachelor of Science at the University of the Ozarks, where Brad was Magna Cum Laude, majoring in Accounting and received his CPA certification in 1990. His impressive professional career spanned literally from coast-to-coast from Corporate Accounting Officer at the Bank of Oklahoma in Tulsa; to thirteen years of dedication as Vice President of Acquisition Strategies at Beverly Enterprises Inc., in Fort Smith; to Vice President Portfolio Management at NHP in Newport Beach, CA; to his most recent role as Development Officer at Capital Source, Inc., in Chevy Chase, MD.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Karen; his devoted sons, Matt and fiancée Rachel Fortner, and Austin and fiancée Tamara Bull; his loving parents, Harold and Barbara McKown; a special aunt, Helen Hodo and husband Richard; in-laws, Dwight and Virginia Morland; a sister-in-law, Terry Schoeppe and husband Harl; a brother-in-law, Charles Morland and wife Susan; as well as a niece, three nephews, and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Brad's Life will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Butterfield Assembly of God in Van Buren with burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Pallbearers will be Matt McKown, Austin McKown, David Merrell, Wayne Fender, Frank Lott and George Turon.

The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Tony Flippin and staff, Dr. John Swicegood and staff, and Dr. David Hunton for their compassion and dedication throughout Brad's journey.

God fearing, humble, strong, great example of a husband and father, never complaining but always teaching a lesson thru his pain, or at least thats what i got out of it by viewing him and his family. The true meaning of a godly man and father and in one word i would have to say INTEGRITY he was all of that. with love to the family. janet medlock
