Brenda Yvette Lambert died peacefully at home from cancer on May 19, 2014 after a courageous fight for better health. She was surrounded with love by her childhood friend Alice Bryant McKinney, Alice's daughter Karen McKinney, and nurses of Southern Care Hospice. Alice was reading to Brenda from Brenda's Bible (Psalms) as she made her way to Heaven.

Brenda was born in Coffee County, Alabama on Armistice Day, November 11, 1944. Her parents were Jerome Lambert and Irene Snellgrove Lambert. Brenda's father died when Brenda was a student at Troy State College. Brenda was blessed to have had two very wonderful stepfathers: Rev. Mason Boyd and Rev. John Otha Black. After the death of Brenda's mother in 2009, Brenda was "adopted" by the family of Alice Bryant McKinney. Alice and Charles' children (Ronnie and Karen) and grandchildren (Keira and Liam) all became Brenda's godchildren. Brenda also had Aunt Nanette and several cousins who loved her and will miss her, along with her many friends.

In recent years, Brenda retired from her job as telecommunications coordinator for the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). She had also worked with the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) division of ADECA and had many fond memories of her CDBG days. Brenda's ADECA coworkers included very special friends Barbara Burns and Chris Player.

A celebration of Brenda's life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at White Chapel, located at 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36109. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with a celebration of Brenda's life at 10:00 am. Immediately after the services, Brenda will be buried beside her mother in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers are Howard Jones, Chris Player, Andy Hornsby, Glenn Parker, Steve Segrest, and Billy Bowers. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Tuskegee High School class of '63.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Brenda may be made to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Acts 4 Fund, 1705 Taylor Road, Montgomery, AL 36117. The Acts 4 Fund provides for those in need as instructed in Acts, chapter 4. Meeting and loving all God's children just as they are was very important to Brenda. She truly believed in demonstrating God's joyful unconditional and inclusive love to all people.
