Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

To honor the men that died in this horrible incident, I have spent the last few weeks reading their bios in hometown newspapers. I will always remember their sacrifices.

Dearest Dr. Michael and Patricia Parry, Scott Bill and Family, We have been gutted emotionally after the recent loss of our son, Troy Schutte. To now learn just a few months later, Chief Petty Officer Brian Robert Bill....Pat's son...my Head Nurse on SCU at St. Joseph Medical Center had been killed in action. We were Bereft. We do know this, no matter where you go, people are gathering and trying to figure out life. There's something wonderfully comforting about walking into a place (church) and seeing that everyone is there to help one another with whatever life has given them. The more we realize that understanding spirituality is about standing as a community and that is what everyone in their deepest sadness shared, as the world had lost a protector and a stellar human being...unimaginably brave...volunteered for intensive training that few can endure...accepted dangerous duty in a lawless land without comment or complaint...because he chose to serve his country...Chief Petty Officer Brian Robert Bill.

Parents took me in one morning after a road trip Brian and I made from Georgia years ago (thanks again Michael and Patricia). Brian was no different. Door always open for a brother and associates. Ended up at his condo one night years later where he opened up his best bottle of wine in celebration of our friendship and nothing else. I protested, "save it for a special occasion", to which he replied, "What's more special than this? I haven't seen you in 3 years!"... a true brother. I love him. Thanks to Mom and Dad for raising a champion among men, I'm better for knowing him.

I traveled for work yesterday crossing three state lines in the process and came back. I walked my dog today in the sun and the breeze. I went to the store and purchased a few items and came home. On my drive, their were no checkpoints no presenting of papers. On my walk, no bullets, no children carrying guns. At the store, no rations, no lines. All this was done freely. Done freely because of you Brian. Because of you and those before you, those now and those who will follow. Thanks Brian. Rest in Peace. An American who thanks you.
