Retired Lynn Police Captain Bruce Hogan, age 71, of Lynn died on Thursday February 16, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helen (McDonough) Hogan. A lifelong resident of Lynn, he was the son of the late John and Louise (Chaulk) Hogan. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1959. Retired Lynn Police Captain Bruce Hogan, age 71, of Lynn died on Thursday February 16, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helen (McDonough) Hogan.


A lifelong resident of Lynn, he was the son of the late John and Louise (Chaulk) Hogan. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1959. He received a football scholarship to and attended the University of Wyoming. He later transferred to and graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's degree, and earned his Master's degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Marie College.


Throughout his lifetime, Bruce continued to be active in various athletics, playing football for one year with the Black Knights, a semi-professional team, and basketball in numerous park leagues and at the Lynn YMCA, where he was a daily fixture up until his 50th birthday. In 2011 he was inducted into the Lynn Classical High School Athletic Hall of Fame for Basketball.


Mr. Hogan proudly served as a Lynn Police Officer for 38 years before retiring in 2001 as Captain and Commanding Officer of the First Division. While a member of the Lynn Police Department, he was involved in community policing in the 70's, formed a Lynn Police basketball team who played against neighborhood high school youths and the Lynn teachers, and actively participated in the Lynn Police Softball team and the Lynn Police Bowling team.


He enjoyed spending time with his family and with his loving wife Helen whom he shared 49 years of marriage. They shared a love of bowling and more importantly, each other's company. Bruce was also a photo enthusiast and was always one to capture the family's athletic and life's events.


He is also survived by his four sons, Michael Hogan of Lynn, Kevin Hogan of California, Shawn Hogan and his wife Susan of Lynn and Brian Hogan of Lynn, and his daughter, Kerry (Hogan) Keogh and her husband Richard of North Reading. He also leaves his grandchildren, Richard "Rick" and Robert "Bobby" Keogh of North Reading and Lauren Hogan of Lynn, his brother Richard Hogan and wife Elaine and his sister Barbara Farewell.


In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by sisters Loralee Toups and Ruth Lundrigan and brother Robert Young.


Captain Hogan's Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn on Tuesday at 9AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church, 26 Bessom St. Lynn at 10AM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , 460 Totten Pond Rd. Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451.
