BUFORD EARL WILSON, 76, a longtime resident of Memphis, passed away on August 17, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Wilson, who was surrounded by family at the time of his death, was born December 18, 1933 in Caraway, AR, the son of Ruby and Earl Wilson, both of whom preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his second wife, Sue Wilson, his sister, Kathryn Kirby, and his brother, Harry Wilson. Mr. Wilson, who spent his early years in Jonesboro, AR, dedicated his life to the Lord as a very young man. He was a 1952 graduate of Arkansas State College High School, where he was a member of the football team. Having lived in the Memphis area for over 55 years, Mr. Wilson retired from three different Memphis-area companies: Conwood Corporation, Sharp Manufacturing Company and ABC Logistics/Thomas Sales and Services, Inc. In retirement, he, along with his wife Dianne, remained active in many church and family activities. Mr. Wilson was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Wilson of the home; by five children, Lynn Martin and her husband Gerald of Roswell, GA, Sheila Pease of Memphis, Sharron Thomas and her husband Bobby of Collierville, Leann Franklin and her husband Ed of Byhalia, MS and Steve Wilson and his wife Barbara of Memphis; by three stepchildren, Lee Billings of Memphis, Karan Hawley and her husband Ronnie of Memphis and Lorie Lawler of Austin, TX; and by a sister, Barbara Fergeson of Lawton, OK. Mr. Wilson is also survived by 14 grandchildren and by 23 great grandchildren. A sweet and gentle man, Mr. Wilson spent his life in dedication to his family and in service to his community and to his church. He served as pastor of Good Shepherd Mission Community of Christ Church in Senatobia, MS and both Mr. Wilson and his wife, Sue, were instrumental in developing the Tate County Literary Council of Northwest Mississippi Community college. He helped establish an endowed scholarship in the late Mrs. Wilson's name in 2002. With his wife Dianne, Mr. Wilson, who was an ordained evangelist, worked for several years with underprivileged children in the Chattanooga area through the Community of Christ Church. Despite his passing, Mr. Wilson's memory will live forever in the hearts of those he touched. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 West Poplar, on Thursday, August 19, 2010. Funeral services will begin at 10 am on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Peace Chapel Community of Christ Church, located at 3548 Brunswick road, Bartlett, TN. Interment will be at Byhalia Cemetery.
