Coach Butch Sigler, age 65 died on Saturday, July 19, 2014, in Houston, TX.
Born September 14, 1948, to Joyce Carlisle and Carlys Sigler, Butch is survived by his wife Debra, daughter Carla, and brother and wife Bobby and Carol Sigler.
Butch will be remembered for his mastery of storytelling, quick wit, positive outlook and attitude.
His love of basketball began while playing point guard for the Welsh Greyhounds in LA.
After graduation from McNeese State University, Butch began his 34 year career in Lacassine, LA. He then went on to coach at high schools in LA and TX. Most recently he was at Victory Prep.
Highlights of his career include: He won 4 state championships from 1992 – 1996 at Strake Jesuit and earlier this year Butch and his 1995 team were inducted into the Strake Jesuit Hall of Fame. He received a milestone award in 2009 for 800 wins. He was named the TCIL coach of the year from 1993 – 1996. Under his tutelage over 50 of his former players received scholarships to play at the collegiate level. He was district champion and state runner-up at AWTY International. While at St Louis Catholic High School, he won 5 district titles and qualified for 8 playoff trips. His overall career record was 805 wins and 345 losses.
He was a loving father and husband and a great mentor in life and in the game of basketball. He had an appreciation and understanding of life and a deep love for others. He experienced defeat, struggle, and loss, but always found a way out of the depths. He was a natural born motivator and speaker, gifted with a great sense of humor. He was always at ease with people and had a knack for making others feel special. Even in difficult situations he was able to provide a humorous perspective.
He showed strength and love until his last days with us. We will forever hold dear the memories, laughter, and joy he brought to our lives.
He gave love, he was loved, and he will be missed.
