7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD
Kansas City, Missouri
June 1935 – September 2017 Aged 82
Byron was born in Independence, Missouri, an only child to Leland Waverly Macklin and Ruby Rae (Anderson) Macklin. He spent much time with extended family sharing a sibling bond with cousins.
Byron was an Eagle Scout and Tribe of Mic-o-say. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1953. In June of 1956 he married Joyce Elaine Scholes, his wife of 50 years.
Byron served in the United States Air Force as an aviation mechanic at Richards-Gebaur Air Base in Grandview, Missouri working on C130 cargo planes. Byron completed his education at Finley Engineering College with much support from his wife Joyce. He passed his Professional Engineer examination in Jefferson City in the early 70’s.
His first job was working for Masterson Engineering as a draftsman while attending Finley. Byron worked for many years as a professional engineer for: Armco Steel Corporation in Kansas City, Sheffield Steel and Kerr Conrad Graham, Associates. He later was self-employed as a sub-contractor for several area engineering firms detailing reinforcing steel for several Kansas City builds such as DST Systems’ Winchester Data Center and the AT&T Town Pavilion. This allowed a flexible work schedule while caring for his mother and mother-in-law over the years.
Byron was first a member of Maywood Baptist Church in Independence later attended Sycamore Hills Baptist Church and was most recently a member of First Baptist Raytown.
Byron and Joyce made their home in Independence where they raised their three kids. Their neighborhood was a tight knit community where neighbors were more like family. Their home of 50 years saw the neighborhood kids running through the backyard playing hide-n-seek and sharing in many neighborhood block parties.
The past two years he lived at the Missouri Veterans’ Homes first in Cameron then in Warrensburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce. Byron is survived by his wife Leona Troop, three children, Bret, Daren (wife Lisa), and Kelly (husband Mark) and six grandchildren, Jason, Brenna (husband Kris), Duncan, Blair, Ainsley, and Brooks.
