Byron Wiswell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 29, 2016.

Byron C. Wiswell passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Stuart Florida
on November 27, 2016.

Byron is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Joan Davenport Wiswell. He is the brother of George (Harriet) Wiswell of Southport, Connecticut and Reading, Vermont; and brother-in-law of Dorothy (Wetherald) West of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his children Linda Quealy (Jack) and Byron C. Wiswell Jr. (Patsy) of Marblehead, Massachusetts, and John D.Wiswell (Lisa) of Jensen Beach Florida; grandchildren Patrick and Christopher Quealy; Byron C. Wiswell lll; and Kyle, Ian, Blake, Morgan and Mallory Wiswell as well as many nephews and nieces.

Byron was raised in Winchester and spent his summers in Marblehead where he met the love of his life at age 14. He and Joan shared a passion for sailing and spent a lifetime together on the water, racing and cruising with family and friends. Also, there are many fond memories of Byron sailing aboard Manticore with his childhood friend E. Paul Casey.

Bryon graduated from Tabor Academy, served with the United States Navy, and then attended Harvard University. Following his graduation from Harvard, Byron worked for the family business Chambers and Wiswell Advertising in Boston. In 1960 Byron purchased the Saranac Glove Company in Littleton, New Hampshire and moved to nearby Jackson, New Hampshire, where he and Joan raised their young family.

In 1968 Byron and his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he became a top producing stockbroker until his retirement in 2000. Following his retirement, he and Joan moved to Blue Hill, Maine and then to Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Byron was involved with many organizations during his lifetime. As an outdoor enthusiast, he passionately devoted his time and expertise to Outward Bound (OB), growing and promoting the organization, first as a board member, then as National President. He and Joan were personally involved with OB and experienced many life changing experiences through OB adventures on Hurricane Island, in the Florida Keys, the Bahamas and Colorado.

He will be missed by his friends and family from the many places he called home: Marblehead, Massachusetts; Jackson, New Hampshire; Ft Lauderdale, Florida; Stuart, Florida; Blue Hill, Maine; and, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. He will be remembered as a gracious gentleman, always.

A memorial service will be held at Old North Church, Marblehead, MA at 11 AM Friday December 16, 2016

My prayers and best wishes go to the Wiswell family. I have only fond memories of the times spent in Ft. lauderdale and the trips to the Bahamas. Those days were so long ago but seem like yesterday. When I saw his photo on the obituary, all those memories came back. Again my best wishes to the entire Wiswell family. God bless all.
