He was born Dec 1 1936 Dothan Alabama, raised in Blakely Georgia and Lake Worth Florida. Mike met and married Bobbi Friedman Shalloway while both were students at the University of Florida where he received his degrees in Agronomy and Animal Husbandry Class of 1959. He Graduated from University of Florida School of Law 1962. While in law school he was a working cowboy for Norris Cattle Company in Ocala, Florida. He and Bobbi returned to Lake Worth where he begin the practice of law and raised his family. Both Mike and Bobbi's children graduated from law school and to his great pleasure they both practice law locally. His daughter Karen with the Palm Beach County Public Defender's Office. Mike and his son Mark formed the law firm of Shalloway and Shalloway PA upon Marks graduation from law school.
A great joy in his life were his grandchildren, Jake , Ben ,Rebecca and Rachel, all who know the deep love of their grandpa and shared in his many interests and adventures. He felt a deep pride in all of their varied accomplishments.
Michael was a former County Court judge and a retired judge for the city of Lake Worth. He was a Board Certified Elder Law attorney who also practiced in the area of Special Needs Trust. The Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys awarded him the coveted Senior Award. He was the cofounder of the Palm Beach County Elder Justice Center. The Palm Beach County Bar recognized him in 2002 for his service to the Bench, the Bar, and the Public. He has authored numerous articles in the areas of Elder Law and Special Needs Trusts. He was accredited by the Department of Veteran Affairs to handle claims for veterans. He has served in a variety of leadership positions for various organizations in the community, including many Palm Beach County Bar Association committees, the Area Agency on Aging, and the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Elder Law Section. He is retired from the teaching faculty of the continuing education division of Florida Atlantic University, where he conducted classes on probate.
After his wife Bobbi's death, Mike's son Rich arraigned a blind date for Mike to meet Marsha. Their love for each other and their love for life was apparent to all they knew them. Marsha and her son Bill and his family helped Mike live and love again, as they joined the Shalloway clan. Marsha brought Mike a new lease on life, full of love and joy after Bobbi's passing.
Though out his life, Mike had a number of great passions. A visit to his home would show a deep love of reading, music and art. He was a gourmet cook, who played music to match whatever meal he was cooking. He has always had dogs and cats. A walk around the outside of his home shows both his and Marsha's extensive collection and love for tropical plants and fruit trees. Over the years he has raised chickens peafowl, turkeys, and assorted other fowl. When living in Lake Worth with Bobbi, he also raised cows, pigs, and goats.
Mike was not tied to the land. He loved the ocean. He and his family spent many weekends on the water. Early on, he was a motor boat guy, deep sea fishing and scuba diving with his family. He also was a certified PADI dive instructor. Later in life he fell in love with sailing. Both he and Marsha hold charter sailing licenses .
In addition to his law practice Mike and Bobbi had a number of other businesses. He was the Broker for Bobbi's rental management company Tropic Coast Reality. He was the contractor for their construction company Rivka Construction as well as owning a used car dealership.
He belonged to several Civic organizations :Lions Club, Elks Club, B'nai B'rith Charter Member, Temple Shaarei Shalom, AE PI Fraternity, and many others.
Services 10 am Tuesday at Temple Shaarei Shalom, 9085 Hagen Ranch Rd, Boynton Beach, followed by burial at Star of David Cemetery, 9321 Memorial Park Rd, West Palm Beach. Shiva immediately following the service at the residence of Mark and Christine Shalloway, 10248 Hunt Club Lane, Palm Beach Gardens. Wednesday Shiva will observed from 6-8 pm at the residence of Marsha Shalloway, 197 Milestone Way, West Palm Beach.
