Sister Callista MacLeod, 94, died peacefully on September 22, 2013, at the CND Health Center in Sydney.

Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter of the late John H. MacLeod and Agnes Elizabeth MacKeough. Besides her parents, Sister Callista was predeceased by her brothers, Malcolm and Neil and sisters Alice, Margaret, Rita and Theresa. She was the last surviving member of her family.

Sister Callista made her religious profession in the Congregation of Notre Dame on August 28, 1940. Her many years of service in the Congregation were spent as a dedicated educator in Sydney, Mabou, New Victoria and New Castle, NB. Her integrity and an immense sense of duty were the hallmarks of her service to the CND and to all those to whom she ministered as high school teacher and principal, as mentor to candidates for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Her accomplishments were acknowledged by Prince Edward. She was also spiritual guide to women who were among the first Associates of the Congregation. Countless numbers of students, parents and friends were influenced by her generosity, keen intellect and love of nature. In her final years her prayerful silence and gracious acceptance of service were an inspiration to those who ministered to her. She will be greatly missed by her Sister companions for her friendship, warm smile and kindness.

Visitation for Sister Callista will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, September 25 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm with a Prayer Vigil at 7: 30 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, September 26 at 11 am at Holy Redeemer Church, Sydney. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
