Calvin Joseph Brooks, 72, of 4495 Barrowsmill Road, Martinsville, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry Co. He was born in Henry Co on May 31, 1938 to the late Fred William Brooks and Edith Dudley Brooks. He served in the United States Navy and was retired after more than thirty years as owner and operator of Dependable Wheel Services in Richmond and Affordable Small Engine repair of Martinsville. He was of the Christian Faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffery C. and Joey Brooks, two sisters, Pauline Ferris and Blanch Hale, one brother, Ben Brooks.
He is survived by one son, David W. Brooks of Bassett, three sisters, Shirley B. Horton and Clarice B. Roland both of Martinsville and Kathleen "Tootsie" Buffkin of Ridgeway,two Grandchildren, David Michael Brooks and wife Sabrinia and Amanda B. Waller and husband, Timothy two Great Grandchildren, Ethan and Autumn Brooks and several nieces and nephews and a special companion, Joyce M. Newland of Richmond, Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 in the Community Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Mike Carrow officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery of Ridgeway with Full Military Honors provided by the Martinsville-Henry Co Honor Guard. The family will receive friends two hours prior to services in the Community Funeral Service Chapel beginning at 11a.m. and other times at the home of a sister, Shirley B. Horton, 904 Barrowsmill Road, Martinsville.
