Calvin E. Powell, 95, a lifetime resident of Blue Grass, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Blue Grass Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 AM Monday at the church. Burial will be at Blue Grass Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Mr. Powell was born May 14, 1919 in Mitchell, SD, a son of Ernest and Nellie (Moore) Powell. On September 8, 1940 he married Velma Alt in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 2000. He was employed by Alcoa, retiring in 1981.
His memberships included Blue Grass Presbyterian Church, Blue Grass Community and Lions Clubs and the Masonic Lodge. He had served as a councilman in Blue Grass. He enjoyed coffee at the Walcott McDonalds and early morning walks.
Survivors include: sons, Gary (Debbie) and Rich (Linda); grandchildren: Christy (Robert) Sheeder, Scott (Kim) Powell, Vicki (Bob) Heskett, and Rob (Julia) Powell; and ten great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
