Camella Hopkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2013.

Camella Diane (Palumbo) Hopkins was born on September 2, 1961, to Angelo & Therese Palumbo in Lynwood, California. She married her beloved husband in 1981. Her beloved son was born in 1982. Camella enjoyed a 25 year career in education and speech pathology and touched many young lives with her devoted work. Additionally, Camella devoted herself to the love and care of her family and home. Her love and joy always touched the lives of her dear family.

Camella touched many additional lives through her work on stage, screen and radio. As an accomplished performer and actress, she graced many audiences and stages with her wit, charm, humor, energy and joy. She performed all over Southern California with various improv groups, including Just Us, Just One and ImprovCity. Stand up comedy, dramatic and comedic stage performances and commercial acting were included in her repertoire.

Her most endeavor was hosting the "Cam Iam" radio show on the Village Vine network. Her voice permeated the airwaves with wit and charm and each new show brought engaging conversations with performers from a broad spectrum of the entertainment world. Her desire to create a warm and comfortable environment for her guests was felt through her voice and in the hearts of the many performers who graced the studio.

Camella's oven was always warm with delicious culinary creations and baked goods for her family and friends. Her care for her husband and son were always felt and not a day went by that they were not reminded of her love and devotion to them. Her affection for them knew no limits and she was proud to devote her time and energy to care for her loved ones.

Her talents extended into her many gardens which were host to many flora and fauna. A love of all things botanical and avian were readily apparent with a stroll through her gardens. Peace and serenity flowed through her gardens to her and her love flowed through her to the many plants in her care. Crafting, painting, writing and other talents brought accolades and pleasure.

A rich Native American heritage was celebrated through learning, creating and collecting jewelry and artifacts. Her Italian heritage was ever present in her life, her humor and her kitchen. She also embraced her husband's heritage, learning the traditions and dishes of the Germanic peoples.

She loved the time spent in Arizona and the Santa Ynez Valley. Vacations were always a joy, but time spent at home with family was just as great a joy. Her smile was a permanent fixture when close her to loved ones.

Our beloved wife and mother will always remain in our hearts, our minds and our memories.

A year ago tomorrow, you left us with broken hearts. We go on and think of you always. You'll never know the void we have felt but oh the memories. It is hard to believe in some ways that has been a year but in other ways in seems forever. Every day when I arrive home to the home that we shared but that you really made, it sinks in again. Always, I will remember the best of times, my love. In the last few years we had, I felt we were never closer and never more there for each other. Thank you hon for showing me what true love is. I will never feel that love again but I know it will keep me going. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN, I ASSURE YOU! As always, C

Hey honey bunch. You know we're getting ready for our first Mother's Day without you. But we won't for a minute forget you were the best mother ever. No exaggeration here. I remember that first night in 1982 and it never stopped. You were the best and you made us proud. Rest well sweet one. We will love you always. P

Dear Craig & Ryan, I truly can't even begin to express my sorrow for your family. I am beyond shocked as everyone else is. I can still hear her voice and her laughter, and I always will. She was such a treasure to have as my friend. She got me through my husband's death with her belief of the afterlife, God and Angels. I will always keep her in my heart! I miss her so much! This picture of my Aunt Camella sums her up perfectly. She had a smile that would light up a room and the aurora about her just made you feel so good inside. She was by far one of the funniest people I have ever known and I reminisce fondly on all the times she made me laugh… what a classic sense of humor. I always admired Camella for going out and trying new things and doing the things she wanted to do. This was a righteous and venerable trait. When someone you love passes away, there is a strong temptation to grieve but we need to remember them. The best thing that she has left behind for us is her example of positive thinking and a “grab life by the horns” philosophy. I am sure that Camella will be sorely missed—both by her family and by her friends, whom I know she helped and inspired. But as she rests, this great wife, mother, aunt, and friend should know that she has made this family proud. The world is most definitely a better place because of Camella Diane Hopkins.

Craig and Ryan: My heart goes out to you and if there is anything you need, it's yours. I love you both and remember that you have a family that loves you and will be here for you during these difficult times.

Dear Camella: I will never forget the special gifts you gave to me!! They were so thoughtful & so just right; the lotions, the soaps, all kinds cosmetics and allways the right color and the kind you knew I,d like!! You truly had a way of knowing and antisipating the needs of others & you were one of the most generous people I have known. I will always remember our get togethers, great food, fun games,& the laughter. I know the good Lord will take care of you until we are all reunited. I love you, Diane

Camella and I first met in elementary school. She was one in a million. She was such a creative cool supportive person and I am so saddended by her passing. What I'm feeling is difficult to put into words. But what I do know is there is never a good time to say "Good-bye" to a friend. So for now I say "Farewell Buddy." Man, I wish we had more time to spend together. Much Love for you and your family. RIP

In these times it is truly amazing to see a couple together for over thirty years; & I know you were both so proud! What a great little team you were; & when Ryan was born, it became a trio. Please treasure all the wonderful memories you all shared. Personally, I will never forget the great Italian meals she loved making so much; nothing pleased her more than seeing someone enjoy one of her elegant dinners. Bless you both. To His Glory! Love, Doug Hopkins

Was shocked to hear of the passing of my cousin Camella. We used to play together, as children, at our grandmother's motel in Lynwood. She was a woman of faith who truly loved her husband and son. Camella, give Gram and Angelo a kiss for me. May she rest in peace.

Doris Camp

Dear Mr. Hopkins,
You dear wife, helped me open up the school year about 6 - 7 years ago at Carpenter Elementary School. I will never forget her and was always glad to see her when she returned to Carpenter. Cam was fun, happy, and so eager to do a great job for me! When she worked with the students, Cam found ways to make learning fun! Cam was so full of enthusiasm for life. Cam's presence filled the room and she was a delightful person! I am so thankful I had a chance to work with her. May God comfort you and your son. I will miss her!!
Sincerely,
Doris Camp,

Dearest Mom,

I miss you so much. My heart aches and aches now that you're gone. I have never felt sorrow, pain or despair like I've felt in the last few days. You meant so much to me and you defined, shaped and enlightened my life. I was truly blessed to have you as a mother. You took such good care of dad and I. I always felt your affection, your warmth and your love. So many times you told me how proud you were of me and I can't even begin to express the joy that brought me. Knowing I pleased you and that you felt loved and appreciated by me meant so so much to me. You never withheld your love for me. You were always quick with comfort, joy and love. Your passing has left such a void in my life. I've just cried and cried since you were taken from us. I thank God for you and the memories and legacy you left. Each moment is so precious to me. I am so proud to call you my mother. You are always on my mind and in my heart. I love you so much Mom and I miss you so much. You picked a wonderful man to be my father and I thank God we are here for each other. We are taking care of each other and we always will. I love you so much.

Love,

Your Son, Your "Little Guy," Your "Smitty," Ryan.

Dearest Mom,
I heart aches and aches since you've been taken from us. I miss you so much. I have never felt despair or sorrow like I have felt these past few days. I miss you terribly. You were a wonderful mother and wife and you took wonderful care of dad and I. Not a moment goes by that I don't think of you. I cherish my memories of you and I'm thankful I had the time I did. You brought so much joy and love to my life. I'll never forget our time together and all the special wonderful things you did for me. Everywhere I look I see your love and affection for me. Not a moment went by in my life when I didn't know I had the most wonderful mother a son could have. I thank God everyday for you and your love. Everything you did for me meant so much to me. You never withheld your love and affection for me and always made sure I knew just how loved and appreciated I was. So many times you expressed just how proud you were of me and that filled my heart with a joy unmatched. To know I pleased you and made you feel loved and appreciated was the greatest gift to me. I've cried and cried and cried since you've been gone. I miss you so much and I always will.

With All My Love,

Your Son, Your "Little Guy," Your "Smitty," Your Ryan.
