Carl John Missal returned home to our Lord on May 15, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 31, 1938 in Kingston, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Dorothy and Zigmund Matchak Missal. Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Stile Missal. They moved to Oakdale, Connecticut from Pennsylvania in 1965. Carl is also survived by his son Karl and wife Barb of Hebron, his daughter Pamela of Columbia, his son Erik and wife Kathy of Woolwich, Maine, and his son Sean and wife Brande of Southington. He was very proud of all his children both for who they had become and what they had accomplished. Carl was also very proud of his four grandsons, Jake and Connor of Hebron, and Rory and Dylan of Southington. He enjoyed attending their many sporting events including many lacrosse, soccer, football and basketball games and cross country and track meets. As an educator, he was delighted with their academic accomplishments as well. He also is survived by his brother, Donald and wife Gail, brother, David and wife Mary from Pennsylvania, and by his brother and sister-in-law, Kathy and Rick Stile (Florida) and families.
Carl served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Robert K. Huntington (the "Bouncing Bobby K"), after which he graduated from Wilkes College with a degree in education. He later completed a 6th year degree at Eastern Connecticut State University and the University of Hartford. Carl was employed as an educator in the Groton school district for 29 years.
Carl loved being involved in helping on family projects such as completing their log cabin Maine and building porches, rock walls and decks for his children. He and Patsy summered in Phippsburg, Maine after their retirement, and since 1960, have visited their fishing cabin on the Susquehanna River in Sugar Run, Pennsylvania. Besides the love he held for his family, Carl also loved his dogs, Molly, Cammie, Abbey and Bailey (some of whom are with him now at the "Rainbow Bridge") and his grand-doggies, Marley, Stegmaier, Gibbons, Cali and Banx.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 - AKJV
...But, I would not have you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, that you sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those also that sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
Sean, may these words give you and your family peace in this time of grief.
