Carl R. Athearn, Jr, 91, of East Ridge, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011.
Mr. Athearn was the son of the late Margaret and Rev. Carl Athearn, Sr. He was a graduate of Oakdale High School and a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College and retired computer programmer for TVA. He was also a WWII US ArmyAir Corps veteran, a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir, and past commander of American Legion Post 95.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elinor Jeane Athearn and two sisters, Esther and Elfrieda.
Surviving are his daughter, Carole and her husband Greg Millard and nieces, Rita Carter, Sue Swinney and Virginia Bowling.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, January 6th at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be at 1 PM on Friday, January 7th at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Dial officiating and visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 95.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jones Memorial UMC, 4131 Ringgold Road, East Ridge, TN 37412.
