Obituary

Carl Lee Bills, Sr., 87, of Troutman passed away Friday, February 21, 2014, at Gordon Hospice House. He was born April 23, 1926, in Columbia City, Indiana, and was the son of the late Roland K. Bills and Myrtle Waltz Bills Wolfe. Mr. Bills served in the U.S. Navy from May 5, 1943 to April 7, 1946, and was proud to have served his country during World War II. He trained at Great Lakes, Illinois, and CASU 22 at Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He served aboard the USS Beckham (APA-133) and participated in the Iwo Jima invasion, the Okinawa invasion, and saw action in Occupied Korea and Occupied China. On December 4, 1948, he married the...
Carl Lee Bills, Sr., 87, of Troutman passed away Friday, February 21, 2014, at Gordon Hospice House.
He was born April 23, 1926, in Columbia City, Indiana, and was the son of the late Roland K. Bills and Myrtle Waltz Bills Wolfe. Mr. Bills served in the U.S. Navy from May 5, 1943 to April 7, 1946, and was proud to have served his country during World War II. He trained at Great Lakes, Illinois, and CASU 22 at Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He served aboard the USS Beckham (APA-133) and participated in the Iwo Jima invasion, the Okinawa invasion, and saw action in Occupied Korea and Occupied China.
On December 4, 1948, he married the lovely Betty Ann Price whom he was married for 57 years until her death in 2005. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, three grandchildren, and a sister, Darlene Bills Renner.
He is survived by three daughters, Susan (Melvin) Vickous and April (Dorsie) Martin, both of Easley, South Carolina, and Lisa Newton of Troutman; three sons, Daniel Bills, Carl (Yvonne) Bills, Jr. and Michael (Tammy) Bills, Sr., all of Troutman; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by extended family that was very dear to him, John (Shirley) Price of Mesa, Arizona, Beverly Price (Robert) Small, Joyce Price (Franz) Rexroat and Lisa Price (Ray) Oller, all of Indianapolis, Indiana.
A private ceremony will be held Monday, February 24, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Gardens with full military rites being accorded by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
