Obituary

Carl Crafton Canup, 87, of Kennesaw, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2013. Funeral service will be held Sunday, August 18, 3pm at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw with Revs. Sammy Burgess and Tom Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Rolling Hills Memory Gardens in Acworth. A lifelong Cobb resident, Mr. Canup was a decorated WWII Veteran having served with the Army's 106th Infantry Division of the 426th Regiment during many fierce battles that included the Battle of the Bulge. A lifelong Cobb resident, Mr. Canup was a decorated WWII Veteran having served with the Army's 106th Infantry Division of the 426th Regiment during many fierce battles that included the Battle of the Bulge. During his service to our country, he was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. To stay connected with Army friends, Mr. Canup joined the Golden Lion's Club. The Golden Lion represented his Regiment. Carl was saved by our Lord Jesus Christ on February 20, 1960 and was a longtime member of Morning View Baptist Church in Acworth where he served as a Deacon before declining health limited his service. Crafton was a woodworker for Lockheed and retired with 33 years of service.
Mr. Canup is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susie M. "Sue" Canup of Kennesaw; daughters – Peggy Harriman of Acworth and Cathy White of Cartersville; 3 grandchildren – Tony Hamby, Matt Hamby, and April Combs; 5 great grandchildren – Bridgett, Noah, Taylor, Kayden, and Davin; sister – Jennie Cantrell of Acworth. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends Friday, 6 – 8pm, Saturday 9am – 9pm. Also from 9am until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or cancer.org.
