Carl was born October 19, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to John and Catherine Kawa, one of ten children. He graduated from Omaha South High School and served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. As a corporal in the JAG Corps, he used shorthand to take minutes of World War II crimes trials.
Upon discharge, Carl worked for a printing company, then he was employed by Mobil Oil Corporation until 1985. He retired from Carter Equipment Company. During retirement, Carl was happy to volunteer for several years at various not-for-profit organizations.
Carl was baptized as an infant into the Catholic Church and was most recently a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary. He was also a member of American Legion Post #370.
Carl leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Joan of the home; daughter, Theresa Krebs and husband, Dennis of Overland Park; son, Gerald and wife, Karen of Kansas City, Kansas; grandson, Jason Krebs, wife Charity and great-grandson Hogan of Townsend, Montana; and granddaughter Melissa Krebs of Olathe. He is also survived by sisters, Ann Schab; Vernie Dudzik; Kay Gentleman and sister-in-law, Irene Kawa. Preceding him in death were brothers, Ed, Larry, Frank, John and Walter and sister, Sophie Pilus.
Our thanks to Dr. Ragland, Dr. Bissing, Dr. Hinton, Nancy at DaVita and Marilyn and Ashley at the Forum for their care and concern. Instead of flowers, please honor this gentle man by being kind to each other. Online condolences may be left at www.mcgilleyhoge.com.
