Obituary

Carlton S. Hamilton, 78, of Holiday City, died on Saturday, October 13th, 2012, at Community Medical Center in Toms River with his loving family by his side. He was born in Toms River, moved to Beachwood in 1955, then to Holiday City at Berkeley, in 2002. He graduated from Toms River H.S. in 1952. While there, he co-captained the 1951 undefeated football team and led the scoring in the Shore Conference for 1950 and 1951. He was elected to the 1951 All American H.S. Football Team. Carlton S. Hamilton, 78, of Holiday City, died on Saturday, October 13th, 2012, at Community Medical Center in Toms River with his loving family by his side. He was born in Toms River, moved to Beachwood in 1955, then to Holiday City at Berkeley, in 2002. He graduated from Toms River H.S. in 1952. While there, he co-captained the 1951 undefeated football team and led the scoring in the Shore Conference for 1950 and 1951. He was elected to the 1951 All American H.S. Football Team. He was a 3 year, 4 sport varsity player, gaining All State Honors in football, basketball, and baseball. Carlton attended Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. In 1999, he was inducted into the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame. Also, in 1999, he was listed by the Asbury Park Press as one of the 100 Outstanding Athletes for the Millennium at the Jersey Shore. Carlton was also inducted into the first Athletic Hall of Fame for the Toms River School, both in 2004 and 2006. Mr. Hamilton was a NJ State Certified Tax Assessor for the Borough of Beachwood for 13 years, he was a member of the Beachwood Recreation Commission, and a coach for the Beachwood\Pine Beach Little League. His most cherished moments in life were the years he shared with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Carlton was predeceased by his parents, James Hamilton of Sea Level, NC, and Elizabeth Hamilton of Toms River, NJ. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ruth Marie (Knowles) Hamilton; his two daughters: Teresa Petty and her husband Ronald of Toms River, and Carleen Kramer and her husband George of Toms River; his grandchildren, Carlton, Haley, Candice and her husband Greg Waszkiewicz, and Christine and her husband Nick Ouellette; his two brothers, Robert of Toms River and David and his wife Arlene of Toms River; and many nieces and nephews
Visitation will be held on Wednesday. Oct. 17, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at The Risen Christ Chapel at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 56 Cedar Grove Rd. Toms River. Please be at the funeral home by 9:15 a.m. to follow to the funeral mass.
Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Community Medical Center, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755. Condolences may be made by visiting www.andersonandcampbell.com.
