Carol D'Auteuil Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2016.

Carol A. (Viveiros) D'Auteuil, 65 of Dartmouth passed at home on Tues., Oct. 11, 2016 after a long and unkind illness that she fought with courage and dignity until the very end. She was the beloved wife of Richard D'Auteuil for 46 years.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joaquim "Jack" and Mary "blonde" Viveiros. In addition to her husband Richie, she was the sister of Edward Viveiros of Swansea, the late Evelyn (Viveiros) Dybowski, and the late Raymond Viveiros. She leaves 3 sisters-in-laws, Anita, Michele (Mickie) and Susan D'Auteuil as well as nieces and nephews. She leaves her cousin, Beverly (Medeiros) Clettenberg of Florida, As well as her loving companion, her Maine coon cat "Maluke". Due to multiple friends with the same first name, she was also known as "Carol D". Carol and Richie met at Al Tormans auto driving school when they were both 16, getting married in New Bedford in 1970, living there until moving to their present home in Dartmouth, in 1980.

Carol was co-owner of Richies Auto Radio, where she was the bookkeeper and "keep the sticks in line lady" Her passion for over 30 years was duckpin bowling, starting at Midtown Bowl in Dartmouth, moving to Durfee Lanes in Westport where she ran multiple leagues for years in both houses. She continued at Bowlmor in Mattapoisett until her illness. While at Midtown, she was honored with being the first woman ever to be asked to join the all men's Thursday night money league, where she held her own against many of the area's top bowlers. She was a multi year member of Escape to Fitness.

Carol was known to many, not by name, but as the lady with the beautiful house on Slocum Rd., due to her passion for gardening and landscaping where she did the daily maintaining and tweeking. Her home was also known for its multi holiday decorations, where trick for treaters from the 80's still return yearly, now with children of their own. As we travel thru life people enter and quietly leave, others enter and leave a footprint on your heart, that lasts your entire lifetime, Carol was one of the footprint people who due to her outgoing personality, Carol tended to "adopt" people as she went through life, affectionately being known as Auntie Carol to many, as well as big sister, little sister, daughter, and mom as well as fellow "Peep" to the gang at Village Cafe.

Her funeral will be on Sat., Oct. 15 at 9:00 AM from the Waring-Sullivan home of Memorial Tribute at the Dartmouth Funeral home, 230 Russells Mills Rd. Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd. Dartmouth at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours on Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM. Entombment in St. John's Cemetery, Dartmouth. To honor Carol, flowers are welcome. Carol was a delight to work with and I am so sorry for the loss. She was always pleasant and even though I never got a chance to meet her personally, she was a voice on the other end of the phone that who, by talking to her, you got a sense of her bubbling personality.
For Rich and the family, my prayers continue to go out to you. May your grief be soon replaced by thoughts of fond memories and happier times.
She was always a bright spot in my day to talk with and that's how I will choose to remember her.
God bless.

Richie:

Words can never express the great loss of our Carol. You shared her with so many of us and allowed her to put her footprint in our lives and most of all on our hearts. My heart has been shattered today with the loss of such a beautiful and forever special person. May you receive comfort in knowing that Carol took care of so many people. I will always find warmth and love around me when I think of all of our good times and our tough times. Whenever I smell the perfume Cool Water I will be taken back in time to being with Carol. The angel that Carol has been on earth, she will be many times over in heaven. Her light will continue to shine for each one of us that knew her and we can spread that great light to others that we meet on our road of life.
I send to you all my love,

It was with sadness that I read of the passing of Mrs.D'Auteuil. While I did not know her personally, as a Dartmouth resident who drove by her lovely home at least 4-6 times a day for years and years, I was among many, many town residents who enjoyed viewing her garden and her yearly decorations and our children enjoyed her very generous Halloween treats. She obviously was a kind human being who freely shared her gifts, talents and time with people she knew and those that she did not know. All of us, at the end of our lives, must stand before God and account for that life...I can imagine that when Carol stood before God, he surely said..."Well done, Carol, well done." My condolences to the family and friends, neighbors and yes, to all the residents of Dartmouth who will surely miss her presence.
