Carol Lagasse Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2018.

Carol “Louie” Thedy Lagasse, 63, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana. Carol graduated from Mount Carmel Academy High School, and subsequently earned her Associates Degree in Business Law from Dominican College. In 1981, she started her career at Mechanical Construction Company as the Assistant to Fred Estopinal. She quickly advanced and became the Administrative Assistant to Joe Jaeger and also the company’s personnel director. Carol quickly realized MCC would be her home and immediately sought out to learn every aspect of every position in the organization. It wouldn’t surprise colleagues to see Carol with a hard hat, walking the job site to understand one aspect of the company’s business. Everyone who knew her would agree that her thirst for knowledge, passion for continuing education, and insistence on having hands on experience gave her the ability to coach and lead others in the organization. Carol insisted on unity and mutual respect and her compassion and insight helped develop the very foundation of the company’s culture. She was promoted to an executive role and was recognized by the National Association of Women in Construction. Carol recently retired after 36 years as the Secretary, Treasurer, Executive Vice President, and Advisory Board member of MCC. Her loyalty to the organization and its family of people accompanied by her work ethic could never be questioned. Although she was career driven, her family was her purpose in life and always her first priority. Her daughter and granddaughters were her everything and she made sure everyone knew that. Her passion for live music, Jazz Fest, traveling, and theater were known by all.

She was predeceased by her loving sister, Barbara Thedy Hester. She is survived by her parents, Hermon and Joyce Thedy of Metairie, LA; her only daughter Tara Schott Aguilar (Mark); three grandchildren, Claire, Madelyn, and Amelia; nephews Raymond Lee (Gabrielle), and David Lee (Kimberly); great-nieces and nephews Rachel, Jonathan, Adeleine, Matthew, Emerson; her brother-in-law, John Hester; and many friends and colleagues all of whom cherished her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Childfund would be appreciated. Carol devoted many years to sponsoring a little girl from Childfund, and is passionate about the charity.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Dominic Catholic Church on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 12pm. Visitation beginning at 10am.

Tara, I am so sorry to hear that your Mother has passed. I worked with her for 17 years at MCC. I have many, many great memories of her. She was a one of a kind.

Ms. Carol lifted everyone up including myself that she came into contact with thoughtout her life. She gave me the appreciation for traveling, work ethic, and even creamed spinach. Whether is was a paid vacation to the rockies/mexico, mcc work, or a quiet sunday dinner after cutting her grass for $20, I am a better person today because of her. If I was out of line or did something right, she would let you know it immediately. I am just sorry I never got the chance to tell her personally how thankful I was. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

I will always remember Mrs. Carol as the best neighbor and friend, and I am so grateful for the memories we shared during the years of our families living next door to one another. Thank you for welcoming us over and into your life, for allowing us to stay with you while mom was in the hospital for Hannah's arrival, for the Taco Tico trips, for the fun times of just hanging out. Your being there had more of an impact than you may know. You are a gem that will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing you, but because of the hope we have in Jesus, we look forward to seeing you again.

Tara, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. It's not easy losing your mom, especially when you're the best of friends; but God is faithful. Lean into Him, and His love and peace will carry you through. Sending so much love your way, friend.

Tara & family,

Please accept our heartfelt condolences regarding the passing of your mother. Although we did not get the chance to know her well, we consider ourselves blessed to have met her at a few family gatherings. The world will definitely be a lesser place without her in it, as this is so evident by the outpouring of love from family and friends. However, her legacy will live on in her descendants and in all those whose lives she touched. May God comfort you in this difficult time. Charmaine, Dominic & I send all of our love and prayers.

I loved my cousin and her spirit and energy that she embodied in everything she did and said. She was totally invested in family and she was so successful in her career without limiting her time with family. She was generous in her love and compassion to others and though we didn't get to see her much but when we met it was always as if we were there always in tune with each others life. We will miss her and the spirit and energy she brought to every time we got together. God bless you Tara and your kids,Aunt Joyce and Uncle Ted. Carol is with her sister Barbara now and watching over us all and we were blessed just to know her. PaPa Olsen is probably telling her how it is in heaven and Mama Olsen is telling him to be quiet Irwin. My prayers and thoughts are with you the family and friends. Watch over us Cous, we miss you .

So glad that I knew Carol. She was always so kind to me, such a sweet person. I would email her new pictures that I would take usually on Monday mornings. I gave her a picture on canvas and she had it in her condo. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My absolute favorite memory with Carol was her driving us to Camp Abby to drop Tara and Rachel off for the week. She was always very inviting even when she didn't have to be to this young 13 yr old boy. -Her laugh was contagious when your pug would do the Stevie Wonder and of course there was plenty of Jassfest fun!
