Carol Sue Fountain, 71, passed away Sunday July 6 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston with her family by her side.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday July 12 at Unitarian Universalist Church in College Station. Interment will follow at Wellborn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Carol was born April 7, 1943 in Elmhurst, Illinois the daughter of Lemuel and Dorothy (Prince) Oliver. She was a graduate of Lake Park High School and later attended Oakton Community College where she achieved a certificate in hotel and restaurant management. She lived in Illinois most of her life where she made a home and worked and raised her children. She moved to Wellborn, Texas after retirement and soon came to love her new home and her neighbors and made many new friends. Carol lived a life of caring and giving, hospitality and fun, with a good dose of humor and without a hint of pretention. She thrived on serving others. She was a dedicated wife and mother, she was elected PTA chair, organized neighborhood safety, and was a soccer coach. She had many passions: she loved bowling throughout her life, most proudly with the aptly named Classy Ladies; she enjoyed square dancing with her husband for many years as a member of the Swiss Swingers; she loved to travel and visited most of the 50 states and abroad to Europe and Okinawa; she was a fierce advocate of property rights for residents of the Wellborn community - helping with petitions and lobbying city hall; she survived breast cancer 20 years ago and subsequently served as a resource for others fighting the disease who needed a survivor's guidance. Carol drank too much for too long but then she found AA and there she found a host of strangers whom became dear friends that helped her experience life anew, and she gave back to that community serving in various administrative roles and bringing treats to meetings. She loved to have visitors - her home was always open to friends and family. She loved to cook for others and experiment with recipes, it was a given that she would not follow the directions, preferring to improvise. She was an entrepreneur, she owned and operated her own restaurant; she was a lifelong animal lover and shared her home and property and love with furred, feathered and hooved pets and spent a lot of time with animal rescues and pet shows; she enjoyed crafting and creating things for others, and most of all, she loved and cared for her family and adored her grandchildren above all.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert Fountain of College Station; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Jennifer Fountain of College Station, Jordan and Megumi Fountain of Yuma, AZ; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Evelyn Oliver of Milpitas, CA; sister, Denise Dumser of Bettendorf, IA; grandchildren, Benjamin Fountain, Hannah Fountain and Iris Fountain; nephews, Bruce Dumser and Kevin Dumser; niece, Heather Dumser; and numerous cousins.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to your local animal shelter or your favorite animal rescue organization.
