Carroll Ogle died peacefully in his home in Cary with his wife and daughter Elizabeth at his side on July 1, 2014. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Hobart H. and Julia Ann Maples Ogle. He was predeceased by his brothers Hobert Ogle and Max Ogle. He is survived by brother Earl (wife Jan) Ogle, sisters-in-law Naomi Ogle and Janet Ogle, and sister Sue Ogle Vandegriff. He is survived by his wife Sheila Thorne Ogle, daughter Elizabeth Stephenson (husband, Tom) Cannon, daughter Kelly (husband, John) Johnson, stepson Cliff (wife, Sandra) Hale, grandchildren John Thorne Stephenson, Bryce Hale, Bradley Hale, Brittany Keith and Erika Hale, and great-granddaughter, Savannah Keith, sister-in-law, Donna (husband, John) Carswell, and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, served in the US Marine Corps and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

His business career spanned many different areas from telecommunications to commercial builder. He was a commercial developer and Managing Partner of Ogle Enterprises, LLC, a partner in McKnight Ventures where he served as Manager of Commercial Development, Managing Partner for The Matthews House, Owner and President of Rush Media Systems, Owner and President of Professional Framing and Boxing (PFB, Inc.), and Partner/Vice President for National Telecom.

He was a role model for many and his passion was mentoring, advising friends and business associates, community service for Downtown Cary, historic preservation, and sharing his knowledge in a variety of different areas.

Over the years, Carroll gave countless hours to the Heart of Cary by being a dedicated board member, an avid volunteer, an advocate for downtown, and a friend to all. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his blue eyes. He was a pillar of the community who will be greatly missed. One of his greatest joys, although he didn't think so when he was doing it 20 years ago, was the restoration of the historic Guess-Ogle Home located in Downtown Cary. The home has become a Cary landmark and enjoyed by his family and many friends. He cherished his church, First United Methodist in Cary and the Faith and Freedom Sunday School Class. He was instrumental in the redevelopment of their Methodist Men's organization and was presented with a Life Member Award to recognize him for his service to that group. In addition he served as Secretary of the North Carolina Methodist Conference and President and Board of Directors for the Raleigh District.

His family will always be grateful for the many friends and family who supported him throughout his long battle with cancer with visits, lunches out and companionship as he monitored all of Downtown Cary from his rocking chair on his front porch.

A celebration of life service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Cary. Online condolences may be sent to the family through www.brownwynnecary.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cary Community Foundation Carroll and Sheila Ogle Family Fund for the Arts and Historic Preservation in Downtown Cary, First United Methodist Church Cary Columbarium Fund, or Hospice of Wake County.
