Carroll Elizabeth Benjamin Pickering, 40, left behind the pain of stage IV brain cancer that had plagued her for over two years February 3, 2013. She passed away in the comfort of her home in Dallas with family by her side. She was born May 10, 1972 in Houston, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her father, James H. Benjamin. Surviving family members are her husband, James, and daughter, Lillian, mother, Marie Bagert, and siblings Annie Irwin, Katy Benjamin, Margaret Benjamin, and Hank Benjamin.
She was employed by Neiman Marcus for twelve years as a financial coordinator. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and had just completed a trip to the Hill Country and northeastern Georgia with her husband and daughter. She was an avid reader, including bedtime stories to her daughter. She loved making jewelry, cooking and baking, especially around the holidays. She actively participated the last two years of the National Brain Tumor 5K walk with the love and support of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. The family asks, that in lieu of flowers, make a donation in Carroll's name to the National Brain Tumor Society (www.braintumor.org) or to a charity that is close to your heart.

The Benjamin family were our first friends on Aldwick Drive right across the street from us. We first met "little miss sunshine" when she was about 13 months old. Baby Carroll lit up a room with that smile even as a baby and all the Clubbs fell in love. She was our little doll baby and the little sister we didn't have. We will always cherish the memories of precious Carroll as she grew into a beautiful wife and mommy with that same glowing spirit. May the Lord give you all His perfect peace that passeth all understanding and His comfort during your profound grief. We love you and will be praying in the days ahead.

Good bye to an amazing woman that has been such an inspiration to many of us at Neiman Marcus for her uplifting spirits and pursuit of happiness.
What can I say, the blessing of little Lilly probably had a more profound entrance into this world than anyone could ever imagine. Carroll always seemed to strive to be happy and strong for her little girl. Carroll managed to tap into her innermost spirit that gave her an amazing drive and courage to push forward despite whatever obstacles that may have been placed in her way, hence her nick name "Wonder Woman." Through it all Carroll maintained such an amazing and positive attitude and outlook. For a few years now, I have kept Carroll's Thank You card up in my cube, as my little reminder to be more like Carroll; keep positive. I think she wrote a personal Thank You note to every employee rather than a group Thank You card, which is just another illustration of Carroll's dedication.
To Lilly and James, deepest sympathy for your loss. God Bless you both!

Carroll was one of the strongest, most amazing people I've ever known. She was warm and funny, charming with everyone she met. She will be so missed, but never forgotten.

Carroll was always like a little sister to me. Growing up and spending holidays in Dallas with the family are some of my fondest memories, especially the year of the locust! We were really lucky to spend those last days with her and we will miss her greatly. We will say many prayers for James and Lilly!

James, Mark and I met Carroll only once, at our 20th class reunion.....we could tell then that she was a special lady. We are so very sorry to hear of her passing. We will keep you and Lilly in our prayers. May God grant you the strength you need to continue on for Lilly and in time, a peace in your heart to make each day a little easier. We love you my dear friend.

"There are so many things to love and remember about our dear friend and co-worker, Carroll, but throughout the last couple of years, we saw an incredibly strong personality emerge. At a time when she faced severe adversity, she showed a real determination with grace...unequaled courage under fire...and a devoted love for family and friends. When we were overwhelmed with sadness for her condition, Carroll lifted our spirits with her positive outlook and hope for the future and her desire to create as many happy memories as possible with her family in her remaining time was so admirable. Finally, we were thankful to be in attendance at Lilly's 3rd birthday party in January and it was exceptional to see Carroll looking so glowingly beautiful and happy and having such a wonderful time with James, Lilly, family and friends...and that is how we will choose to remember her. Love from Peggy, Terri, LaRue, and Robbin at Neiman Marcus

It's still hard to believe that Carroll is gone, but she will forever be remembered! She was so smart, strong and adorably funny. All she ever wanted was to have a beautiful daughter. I pray that God will give us all strength to understand that her work on earth was done and he needed her in heaven!
