Casey Lee Whitley Damen was born on August 12, 1978, in Weslaco, Texas, to David and Bonnie Whitley. She left this earth on July 9, 2013, surrounded by her loving and devoted family, after a courageous and spirited battle with Stage IV Breast Cancer.
Casey is survived by her loving husband Jason Damen, her mother and father of Laguna Vista, Texas; her sister Courtney Mitchell along with her husband Shane Mitchell of Sherman, Texas; her brother-in-law John Damen along with his wife Lauren of Austin, Texas; her in-laws Mike and Marion Damen of Austin, Texas; three beloved nieces, Whitley Mitchell, Charley Mitchell and Katherine Etta Damen. She is also survived by her grandmother Peggy Whitley of Weslaco; aunts and uncles Marlee and Gary Schwarz; Beth and Marty Masso; and Darla Burton, as well as numerous cousins who have all been a part of Casey's life.

Casey graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, with a business degree and subsequently was employed as a forensic analyst with the Travis County District Attorney's Office. While at Southwestern University Casey joined Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and made life long friends. Casey was also very active with many activities including fishing (she loved sightcasting to Redfish), golf, and spending time traveling with friends and family-including trips to the Florida Keys, Colorado, British Columbia, Belize, the Outer Banks and to all corners of Texas.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to all of Jason and Casey's friends who have supported them and shared their lives. They made Casey's journey through cancer easier and filled her life with wonderful adventures that are too numerous to list. A special thank you to Beth Hellerstedt, M.D. of Texas Oncology-she was Casey's general and friend in her fight against this "damn cancer" and all the chemo nurses and staff at Texas Oncology at Round Rock-they kept her spirits up and treated her with enormous kindness. We want to recognize the Breast Cancer Resource Center and the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls who became family to Casey after her Stage IV diagnosis. We would add a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and staff of the Oncology Floor at St. David's Hospital at Round Rock for their excellent and tender care of Casey and her family during Casey's final weeks. Casey's goal was to kick cancer's ass and she did it one day at a time by living her life to the fullest and urging those around her to do the same.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions be made in Casey's name to the Breast Cancer Resource Center in Austin either on their website at bcrc.org or via mail at P. O. Box 300040, Austin, TX 78703
