FARRINGTON, Catherine (Lysaght), 70, of Plymouth formerly of Scituate, passed away peacefully at her home on January 30, surrounded by family.

She was the beloved wife of William, and mother to five sons, William and Mary of Hingham, Gregory and Gail of Mansfield, Robert and Donna of Weston, CT, Peter of South Boston and the late David. She will continue to inspire her seven grandchildren: Joseph, Dominique, Victoria, Matthew, Benjamin, Claire and Anne. She is survived by five siblings: Jane DeGange (Jack) of Lebanon, NH, Edith Sullivan (Richard) of Westfield, Peter Lysaght (Doris) of Brookline, Patricia Fresina (John) of Bedford and Claire Stearns (Waring) of Portland, ME, and siblings Hank and Paul (deceased).

Cathie grew up in Scarborough, ME, playing on the beach with her friends and close-knit family. She eagerly followed in her sisters' footsteps attending Bates College where she was an English major and a member of the cheer squad.  She and Bill met at Bates and assembled a tremendous group of friends with whom the family is still close today. After getting married at St. Jude's in Pine Point, the same church where she lovingly practiced her Catholic faith as a young girl, she and Bill began building a family. Cathie received her ultimate joy being a sister, wife, mother and 'Grammie' and began building a family while living in Scituate, MA and Montville, CT. Cathie also built a career working at MIT after her Bates graduation, running a small day care practice from her home while raising her boys, and managing an office at Ross Engineering in Norwell.  However, it was in her service to education where she felt truly rewarded. She worked for a decade at the United States Coast Guard Academy in the music department and for eight years at Milton Academy in the development office. She found great optimism being around the young people at both institutions, always encouraged by her interactions with students and their demonstrated promise.  Cathie's strength, sense of humor, beauty and grace were inspirational to all who knew her. She was extremely proud of her participation in a clinical trial that has helped lead to research discoveries in the treatment of ovarian cancer. Cathie shared this request with those she loved: each day, enjoy some of my favorite things, a new book, a day on the beach in Maine, golf, a little bit of chocolate, grandkids, a friend with a good joke, a glass of red wine, family meals and sharing life with people you love.

Calling Hours will be held at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd, Scituate on Tues. Feb. 4th from 4PM-8PM. Funeral Service from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home on Wed., Feb. 5th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Nativity, Scituate at 10AM. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The Gynecologic Cancer Research Fund, Carolyn Krasner MGH, Yawkey 9E, 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA 02114. She also holds a very special place in her heart for her guardian angels at Cranberry Hospice and Prescribed Care in Plymouth, MA, and the Norwell VNA.
