Cecile Hudson Grant, 78, of Raleigh passed away Saturday morning, June 17, 2017. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 20th at 2:00 PM with Mass of Christian Burial following at 3:00 PM at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5801 Fall of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
Cecile or Ceci/Cec/Ceil depending on what stage you entered her life, was the daughter of the late William Thomas Hudson Sr., Eileen Vincent Hudson and Cecile Vincent Hudson who raised her. She was a proud 1960 graduate of St. Mary's College, Notre Dame and began her career as a medical social worker in Los Angeles. She and her husband, Alexander Thom Grant III, moved between Los Angeles and Raleigh a number of times between the late 60's and 70's before calling Raleigh home in 1976. Cecile's life was hallmarked by faith and committed to service. She found her home and vocation in the faith communities of St. Raphael's and the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, bringing Jesus' love and mercy to others. She served on virtually every ministry and committee, the first to offer herself to those in need. After taking time off to raise her four daughters, she went back to work for "a few months" to assist her longtime friend, Msgr. Gerald L. Lewis, when he became rector of the Cathedral. A few months became 27 years, rich in friendships, experiences and memories. She worked at the Cathedral until this last December, never officially retiring.
Her "Irish Eyes" shone with love upon her children: Kate Grant Wells (Mike), Meg Grant, Molly Grant, Muffy Grant-Linnane (John). Her grandchildren: Curtis, Grant and Margaret Wells; Cashel, Celia, Kittredge and Collins Linnane. Her brothers (and their wives): Tom, Rob, Art, Mike and Jim Hudson. Scores of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex.
If you're blessed enough to still have your mom, give her a call…or better yet, a hug.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Raphael's ECC Ignatius Fund in honor of Sr. Francis Clare Ughast CSC, founder.

To our dear friends Muffy and John (and children) we are so very sorry for your loss. While we never met your mother, we indeed knew her - through you, the woman you are Muffy, the way you spoke of her, the service she dedicated to the cathedral, her church and the community - you honor her each and every day by the beautiful person you are. May her love and light always shine upon you and may the beautiful memories fullfill your heart until you meet again - With much love,

Dear Grant Family,
So very sorry to hear of this loss. Cel was at Gibbons for any and every activity, helping and supporting whatever group was in need of assistance. Most of all, her loving presence brought joy to us. May she know the great reward prepared for her by God whom she served and loved so well. Prayers for you as you miss her, united with you in spirit as you celebrate her life.

Our loved ones never truly leave us...
They live on in the kindness they showed, the comfort they shared, and the love they brought into our lives.
Cecile was blessed with a warm caring heart as is evidenced in all of the messages, and in turn she has been blessed throughout her life by a loving family, her church family and all of her friends.
Now it is time to celebrate a life well lived!

Dearest Katie, Meg, Molly and Muffy. I was so saddened to read of your mother's passing. I knew her through Cathedral and Gibbons, but mostly because of you girls. She was delightful and always upbeat. I have such sweet memories, however brief, of her. Bless you all, and remember that she will always be near you.

Dearest Muffy, John, and family,
Your precious mom’s kindness, humor, intelligence, energy, and joy were palpable to all of us who were lucky enough to know her – what a privilege to have experienced her love. She was, quite simply, beautiful in every way, start to finish, inside and out. Her Irish eyes will remain smiling down on you forever, and her love will live on through you every day of your lives. May all of the wonderful memories you shared with her give you peace during this incredibly difficult time…
Sending much love, many hugs, and deepest sympathy,
