Mr. Charles C. "Tiger" McCune, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on Friday April 26, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (Chapman) McCune.
Charles was born in Marblehead, May 26, 1914 the son of the late Charles A. McCune and Anna S. McCune.
A lifelong Marbleheader, he graduated from Marblehead High School Class of 1933 where he enjoyed playing football for Charlie McGuiness. Charles honorably served in the US Navy as a Navy Chief with PT Boat Squadron 17 during WWII in the Pacific. Charles retired from the US Postal Service in Marblehead in after 30 years of service. "Tiger" as he was affectionately known, was an avid fan of Horse Racing, a cold Budweiser, gardening, flounder fishing and he was a surprisingly good fry cook. He was also a member of the VFW Post #2005 in Marblehead, and the Gerry 5 Veteran Fireman's Association.
He is survived by daughters, Diane Canty of Marblehead and Donna McCune of South Hamilton, sister, Emeline (McCune) Duggan and his beloved grandson, Nathan J. Canty.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 11 at 11AM in the Dr. Arland A. Dirlam Chapel at Waterside Cemetery, 294 West Shore Drive Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to PT Boats Inc. a nonprofit, educational, historical, 501c3 founded in 1946, at ALL HANDS National Headquarters, P.O. BOX 38070, Germantown, TN 38183-0070. Arrangements under the direction of the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead.
