Charles Ashurst Obituary

Charles Fredrick Ashurst, age 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2017. A native of Tallassee, Alabama, Charles was born on September 15, 1939 to Charles and Mildred (Inez) Ashurst.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dian Ledbetter Ashurst; daughters, Dana Ashurst Perret (Kevin) and Alyson Ashurst Berthelot (Kevin); his sister, Joan A. Miller; brothers, Austin Malone Ashurst and Bill Robert Ashurst; and his two grandchildren, Carson Dian Perret and Eric Thomas Berthelot.

Charles graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1961 from the University of Vanderbilt and held a career as the Superintendent of Off-Shore Drilling for Shell Oil Company for 37 years. He proudly served his country as a Naval Officer aboard the USS Forrest B. Royal 872 and USS Waller DDE 466. Charles was a member of the Chateau Country Club, President of the Whitney Heights Association, a John Calvin Elder and a SAE Member Vanderbilt Chapter.

Graveside and burial will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tallassee, Alabama. A memorial service will be at held at John Calvin Presbyterian Church at a later date.
