Charles Nicholas Contor, 73, know as "Toby" to his many friends, died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy, due to complications following a brief period of illness.
He was married 42 years to his loving wife, Sandra B. Contor, with whom he raised two sons, Robert and William. He leaves Sandra, his wife; Robert, his step-son; William, his step-son and daughter-in-law Tricia, along with Toby's grandchildren, William Charles and Jack; Ronald, his brother; three children from a previous marriage, Nicholas, Christine, and Julie; and many close friends.
Born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Nicholas and Madonna Contor, and a Michigan and New Jersey resident, he had lived in Charlotte for nearly 30 years and considered it his home. Toby worked most of his career handling fleet sales as a National Accounts Manager at GMC Truck & Chevrolet Truck, where he met his wife, Sandra.
Toby and Sandra enjoyed traveling together to many destinations around the world, from Brazil and the Caribbean to Spain and Italy and more, often because of national sales awards earned by Toby's hard work. He was a graduate of Pontiac Northern High School, where he was an accomplished wrestler, and Western Michigan University, where he majored in business.
Toby was an avid tennis player and an active member of the Olde Providence Racquet Club, where he was a former member of the board. Toby's boisterous laugh and his fun-loving, easy-going nature will be missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel at 10500 Park Road on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

I will miss Toby and the conversations with him on the OP porch where we "resolved" many of today's problems and where I was taught much about the auto and truck business. I pray for peace and comfort for Sandy, the family, and all of his friends.

Heaven has gained an angel. I have known and played Toby over the past 20+ years at Olde Providence Racquet Club, which he added great value to as a member of the board of directors and on the courts. Prayers up for Toby, Sandy his family and many friends. He will be missed!
