Charles Kollhoff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 12, 2017.

Charles (Chuck) Walter Kollhoff was born on May 28, 1916 and died on May 12, 2017. He lived long and well. For 73 years he was married to his beloved wife, Gladys Elaine Finklea Kollhoff. She predeceased him in 2013. Their marriage was lived in accordance with the Biblical mandate of one flesh, inseparable in their love for each other.

He grew up in Dallas and served in the Navy in World War II from 1941 to 1945. In 2013 he went to Washington, D.C., as part of Honor Flight, which is a program to honor veterans of World War II. After the war, Chuck went to Southern Methodist University and received a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked many years for Braniff Airways in Dallas until he retired in 1981. In his retirement he loved to work with wood doing Intarsia carvings and other woodworking projects. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and family gatherings.

He is survived by his children, Cynthia, Kathy and Karla, and their husbands, Joe Womack, Bill Smiers and Gary Esters, respectively. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Chuck set a wonderful example of how to live life by devoting himself primarily to family, faith, and friends. He first and foremost set an example as a Christian as he honored and served the Lord as a deacon, Bible teacher, choir member and as a servant in enumerable other ways in many churches (the last being First Baptist in Van Alstyne). Secondly, he set an example in how to be a husband and father. He cherished his wife and children and served faithfully as head of the family. His daughters all agree that the leadership and discipline he gave have served them well as adults. Thirdly, he enjoyed being with people and was a friend who could always be relied on to be there whenever he could be of service. He made his mark on many people-family, friends, people he worked with, and even perfect strangers, as he always treated people in such a way that they felt comfortable in his presence.

Thanks be to God for Chuck's abundant life on this earth, for the example he gave as he tried to live life as God intends it to be lived, and for the eternal life he now has with the Lord, his wife, and many family members and friends with whom he is now reunited.
