Unfortunately I did not have an opportunity to get to know Mr. Van Horn but as I watch his son Dan and beautiful wife Eva raise their 4 incredible children in South Windsor, CT - I hear about his incredible life and watch his spirit and legacy carry on in this wonderful family. Little League in South Windsor, CT is still going strong with Dan and Jack continuing the love of baseball and taking lessons learned years ago from Mr. Van Horn and sharing them with so many others. I think I can see Dan celebrating on Major A with his team, the other team and with his dad right in the midst of it all, probably soaked in Ginger Ale - what a great memory. I cannot wait to see Jack do the same with his Dad on that mound on Major A one day. What a great man Charles Van Horn was to so many and his service to our country makes him a hero in my book. Fortunately for those around him, I hear he was a hero to so many more. To the Van Horn family - our strongest thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn a great loss but remember a wonderful life. Mrs. Van Horn - we are so sorry for your loss - please know that your son and daughter in law are making a huge difference in our community in South Windsor from lessons learned from you and your husband and your grandchildren are carrying the legacy of a great man with them as they go on to great things in their own lives. Our deepest sympathy and many prayers - The Mabey family, South Windsor, CT.

I remember Chuck from our Little league days and how much fun it was when we played his team(the Indians, I'm pretty sure). Mostly I remember Chuck telling me at the hockey arena once that he couldn't understand us Northerner's obsession with using ice to play hockey on. "Where I'm from" he said, "we use ice for cocktails." God Bless you, Chuck, and may you rest in peace.

Mary, Chuck, Dan and Beth: Our prayers are with you. The Van Horn's back in Chattahoochee County where Charles was born had a very proud heritage as a strong Christian family. His father James, my mother's brother, would have certainly been proud of the wonderful families that Mary and Charles gave to us. There is no easy way to lose a life-mate, a father, a grandfather, a best friend. And he would want you to remember all the good times and the happy times he spent with you. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time of grieving. God will keep good care of all of us and get us through the rough times. We love all of you and are looking forward to being with you on Thursday. Robert and Betty Patterson
