Charles was a graduate of Burges High School Class of '57 and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Regents College. He also attended the College of Mines (UTEP) at El Paso, Texas before deciding to join the US NAVY and see the world. He graduated from the Naval Nuclear Power School in New London, Connecticut and the Naval Electronics School in Long Beach, California. His first tour of duty was as a submariner. Afterwards, he was stationed at Holy Loch, Scotland, UK aboard the USS HUNLEY. His service also included two tours in Vietnam and stations in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Chase Field, Beeville, Texas; Keflavik, Iceland; Norfolk, Virginia; and many hours at sea, in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. After returning to El Paso he worked as a substitute teacher for children with disabilities. He went on to work for Rockwell, US Power, Magtech, and Opex. Among his many interests were photography, camera repair, computers, his family's ancestry, and literature. He shared his thoughts on these subjects and all others with his best friends every morning over coffee.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; his mother Allean; and his sister, Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Christina; daughter, Meagan; son, Timothy and his wife Theresa; son, James and his wife Kathy; granddaughter, Heather; grandson, Cody; brother, James and his wife Mary; sister, Charlene and her husband Randy; brother, John and his wife Gail; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Charles, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend was a blessing to all who knew him. A shining example of a true human being, his love, kindness, honesty, understanding, patience, and respect for life will be greatly missed, but shall never be forgotten. He lived his life for his family and gave them the whole world. Knowledgeable on every subject imaginable, you could talk to him when you needed help or simply to listen and learn. His voice soothing and his arms comforting, he was an anchor in the storms on the sea of life. In his last years, his greatest joy in life was his granddaughter, Heather, and he spent every waking moment thinking of her, caring for her, teaching her, playing with her, and most all, loving her as only he could. Charles was a beautiful person and to have known him and been loved by him is a precious gift.
